Re-set a Diamond...

My wife’s engagement band had the main diamond fall out, it is a platinum ring we have the diamond, do you have a general idea on the cost to re-set and platinum ring? Right now Littmanns has it and is giving us a free quote, they are who I bought it from.

There is a forum vendor that is a jeweler. Ray crinzi jewelers or something. Give them a shout

If you bought it from them, they should do it for nothing…

Otherwise worst case it should maybe be a couple hundred at most if they have to replace the whole crown part (The piece that holds the stone). When I had my wife’s engagement custom built, I think the platinum crown portion itself was about $150 or so (I’m doing this from memory, so the numbers should be in the ballpark but not exact); then the cost to have them solder the crown to the band and reinstall the stone.

This has been my experience, too…

That occurred to me immediately after i posted. I actually edited my post before you even quoted me. Cut me some slack, i work midnights, i gotta go to bed.

According to Littmanns they would only do it for free had we been doing inspections every 6 months, which they never communicated to us. We had to inspected through the extended warranty but not after that. Perhaps I can try and fight them on it.

That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. I would get the ring back from them and never step foot in there again. Extended Warranty? Do you mean insurance? What do you need a warranty for?

Pretty standard for almost any jewelry place warranty.

I don’t buy jewelry…just watches on here.

@Baker

Sorry I didn’t see this earlier. If the head is reusable or repairable then it’s $40 to reset it. What size is the center stone? A new 1ct platinum head costs $120.00 so about $160 after everything. You’re lucky you found the stone, most people end up loosing it. As far as Littman not covering it, the whole “have it checked every six months” rule is to check for worn prongs. I’m not sure how long you’ve had it but platinum wears very slowly so I’m guessing she broke a prong off. If that’s the case then it wouldn’t have mattered if you had it checked every week or every six years.
