Read any good books lately?

yeah dark tower series is good, first 4 books anyway. He rushed the last 3 out though, they are Meh.

The Emptied Soul: On the nature of the psychopath - Adolf Guggenbuhl-Craig

Just finished. Highly recommended.

Jon Krakauer: Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman

The account of how a devoted family man and NFL player gave up a $3.6M/yr contract with the Cards to serve as an elite Army Ranger (some of you may remember when he was killed in Afghanistan in '04). He was part of the rescue of Pvt. Jessica Lynch - something I didn’t know. The author was granted access to Tillman’s family letters and as a result blew the cover off of a government attempt to keep details of his death under wraps (he was killed by “friendly” fire). As a result, 7 people associated with the cover-up lost their careers.

Well written and researched, some areas of it are slow, but overall: Recommended.

bump!

It’s interesting how much information can be processed in the 1st few seconds.

Any novel by Charles Bukowski, The Dexter series (Darkly Dreaming Dexter, Dexter by Design, etc.), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, God Hates Us All (not as much about religion as you’d think), The Brothers Karamazov if you want something to take up a good chunk of your time, 700 pages of awesomeness.

I just finished reading “I was Doctor Mengele’s assistant”. It was the memoirs of a concentration camp prisoner who performed autopsies for the Nazis on the people that they experimented on. 10/10 read. Very quick read but VERY graphic and disturbing.

These are two of the better books I’ve read lately, the type that I couldn’t put down and burned through each in like two days.

Fuckin A. Here it is for free.

I’m listening to Zen and the art of motorcycle maintinance
I have never had to rewind and relisten so much ever before.

The law of gravity and gravity itself did not exist before Isaac Newton."
…and what that means is that that law of gravity exists nowhere except in people’s heads! It 's a ghost!"
Mind has no matter or energy but they cant escape its predominance over everyhting they do. Logic exist in the mind. numbers exist only in the mind. I dont get upset when scientists say that ghosts exist in the mind. its that only that gets me. science is nly in your mind too, it s just that that dosent make it bad. or ghosts either."
Laws of nature are human inventions, like ghosts. Law of logic, of mathematics are also human inventions, like ghosts."
…we see what we see because these ghosts show it to us, ghosts of Moses and Christ and the Buddha, and Plato, and Descartes, and Rousseau and Jefferson and Lincoln, on and on and on. Isac Newton is a very good ghost. One of the best. Your common sence is nothing more than the voices of thousands and thousands of these gjosts from the past."
— Robert M. Pirsig (Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry Into Values)

I’ve been listening to that too. Not something you can just cruise through.

I am prepared to be informed, yet disgusted.

Deadly Spin by former Cigna communications head Wendell Potter.

Wonk Room: “Following a playbook developed by the tobacco industry, Potter describes how the insurance industry relied on professional public relations firms and a wide network of news outlets and conservative think tanks to move public opinion against progressive reforms like the public option and ensure that the health law did not interfere with its profits.”

proletariats FTW

How is that type talk book so far? I had a personal leadership class in my MBA program and we actually took that test to determine our personality type and talked about compatibility with others…I was ESTP and it definitely suits me.

I just started it yesterday. I am borrowing it from a guy that interviewed me. (not sure if thats good or bad)
I used to be much more introverted when I last gave any thought to it during undergrad (~99ish)
Now I think it’s more of a slight preference.

According to the book, I’m INTP. That was as much read so far.

Stole this off the website Myers Briggs Type Preferences Perception Judgment

Seek to develop logical explanations for everything that interests them. Theoretical and abstract, interested more in ideas than in social interaction. Quiet, contained, flexible, and adaptable. Have unusual ability to focus in depth to solve problems in their area of interest. Skeptical, sometimes critical, always analytical.

ESTP
Flexible and tolerant, they take a pragmatic approach focused on immediate results. Theories and conceptual explanations bore them – they want to act energetically to solve the problem. Focus on the here-and-now, spontaneous, enjoy each moment that they can be active with others. Enjoy material comforts and style. Learn best through doing
