this is the final example, powder coated and installed in my car.
unfortunately because my stereo is in i cant really beat on the car to test it.
initially, driving down the road i didnt notice a whole lot of difference. i did however take a nice long highway trip today and that is where the difference came out.
accelerating while exiting corners and on off/on ramps the car is alot flatter and really wants to slide out. it was however a very predictable feeling.
this specific bar was designed from measurements from a beat chassis, it fit VERY snuggly in that car, but it didnt fit as snuggly in my car, probably only a couple mm difference.
of course it gets bolted in tightly, but what i am going to do is include extra endplates like spacers to tuck in behind the endplates welded to the bar.
we are not going to make it adjustable, becasue it would make the cost unreasonable. also, most of the stress just hits the bends in the bar and doesnt all find it’s way to the ends.
i also installed the trunk bar in my car today as well, it is PC’s the same blue-black colour.
before the trunk bar is ready i have to make the spacers alot taller so that the bar will sit comfortably above the spare tire. the trunk was gutted in the test-fit car so it never came to mind.
we are using the Heim joints at the ends.
Phil, you had mentioned that heim joints were not a good idea. i wasnt sure so i brought it up with the designers.
instead of explaining it to me, what he did was take me to the next shop and show me a dirt track race car that is in active use.
they use this exact same heim joint and in fact the same bar altogether on the dirt track cars for this exact same function.
yes you can pivot the bar very slightly, however there is absolutely no lateral play.
i have a few pictures of the dirt track car but not hosted. if anyone has me on msn and is doubtful of the heim joints i can show you pictures of the dirt track car using the exact same design. it is very common.
i should have pricing information this coming week.
all who are ready to jump the wagon early will benefit from an early bird discount. i would like to build a good relation ship with several of the suppliers i am using and for them to know that there is demand for these items would be great.
as for the powder coating, it should be very cheap per piece, but that is only if you agree to a colour they are already running. it took my less than a day to get these ones back
if you want your own colour or a colour they offer but are not running, the price will be slightly more.
