Recaro child seats-anyone have this model?

Well the little one is getting bigger and looking into child seats and of course I am drawn to the Recaro naturally.

I really want to see if this seat will fit well in my wifes small SUV. As many have complained that the seat is kind of on the tall side. And I cannot find one locally to try out in store.

Seat must be a rear facing seat for safety reasons, will not entertain anything else. Been looking at this model: Recaro Proride (similar older models are the Signo G2 & Como G2 models). Let me know if you have those too.

Also looking into the Britax Marathon for comparison sake, and its great reviews.

Slightly cheaper than the Recaro, but a great comparison.

Any experience you have let me know…

check outthe Sparco WingMan tho, that thing is serious.

We have that exact Britax (2 actually, one for each car) and picked it solely on its safety features. I looked at some other models and decided against them all when we compared them side to side. You can see how it fits in her car when you guys are here on Friday.

EDIT: The Britax car seats are crash tested at 70mph (all others are tested at 35mph), not sure about the Recaro, but that would be something I’d look into since it’s more of a real world scenario.

I will take you up on the fitment test for sure on Friday. The tests are very comparable, especially the side impact ones too. I really like the look of the recaro Pro Series seats like this:

But these are for toddlers and are front facing only^

That sparco Wingman is NUTS

The wing man is bad ass but also looks forward facing. We had something very similar to the britax.

the wingman was an art student one off… it wasnt anythign sparco made or was going to make from my internet research

i would think about a stroller/ seat combo. It makes loading and unloading simple, something like this :

then when they get older

this is what I did, my son loves his seat. I love the fact that when he is sleeping his head is always supported.

p.s congrats btw

My guess is, this is what they have and the little one is getting too big for it.

Those look nice, our little one stayed in the infant seat for a whole year. We were considering going front facing when we bought the Britax’s since she was a year and almost 20lbs., but all the studies stated it was best to keep the little one rear facing as long as possible, so we opted for the convertible one.

I thought we were going to get off for cheap since the front facing ones are so much less expensive!

I got the Recaro seat in my Odyssey right now. I love it a lots. Very comfortable too. I got the COMO though.

Yes, she will outgrow the Chicco seat/base combo we have now in about 2 months (hence the homework and shopping now).

We really want to keep her rear facing, watch the videos of the crashes and it does make sense, so the convertible seat (rear or front facing) is the way to go. To many kids front facing in the toddler seats seem to slouch over too when falling asleep.

Thanks Pat ^ Where are you located ? Any chance I could get a look at it sometime?

I’d get a rear facing seat that pops out and locks into a stroller as a few people said. You won’t use it for too long so I wouldn’t get anything to fancy, but that modular style is really convenient, especially when you want to transfer the child without waking them up.

When it’s time for forward facing let me know and I’ll hook you up on a Recaro. The ProSport is the new version of the Young Sport which a bunch of NYSpeeders and myself got our kids. It’s designed to convert from a forward facing child seat to a booster so it’s good from 20-120 lbs. That means you won’t have to buy a booster seat later. I understand why you want to keep your child rear facing as long as possible, but by the time they grow out of their first seat they’ll be old enough to hate staring at a seat back.

In terms of safety, the 5 point harness holds them so they can’t slouch. When they fall asleep in the seat their head will rest against the side impact padding like a pillow so it’s comfortable and I feel pretty safe, but it’s your call.

On the ProSport the back adjust with one touch when your kids get bigger, rather than having to pull the belts out and re-thread them into a higher set of slots.
Converting from a standard child seat to a booster only takes a minute as well. This isn’t much of an issue since you’ll only do it once, but the whole seat is very well thought out.
It can be installed using a regular seatbelt or the Latch attachments. When using it with a belt it has guides that keep the lap belt down where it should be. They also place the shoulder strap so it lays across the child properly when you convert to a booster.

I’m North Tonawanda/Amherst area on the BLVD. You are welcome to come and check them out anytime.

We are outgrowing the carry-snap into stroller type very soon (we have the Chico stroller/carrier). And as much as I want to put her into the ^ prosport model and it is rated for 20lbs and up… I really want to keep her rear facing as long as possible, then move up to the prosport from there, that will be a while, so I guess I am okay with that, It wont feel too short lived I guess.
I will for sure take you up on the ProSport when it comes due… you get any discounts on any of these other models? pricing seems to be pretty consistant/regulated everywhere.

I will drop you a PM next week if thats okay? thanks very much

No problem!

Recaro distributes their child seats as part of their full range of products so we get them as a dealer just like their racing seats. Let me know which seat you settle on and I’ll PM you a price.
