Redbull World Drift Championships

its fun, its an incredible experience, often times it’s worth it depending on your life style… i think we need to be realistic about it rather than automatically envy.

Im sure the guys at Intense know how hard it is to balance drift, business and family… i know i’ll be at the track less next year.

I also know that as of 2007 several of the DMCC drivers were getting more corporate support than some of the biggest American personalities in drift. I remember telling a couple of them how much General was investing into Haig and Marco… JR bascailly said he’d live in Canada for that kind of support…lol

Also, last time i was in Montreal i spent some time with Haig, the guy was working 18 hour days 6 days a week to build his business… then drifting on the side…that’s some serious shit right there… he was wrenching on customer cars after midnight on a thursday and back in there for 9am the next morning.

i swear i was watching the “Redbull” drift competition on TV like 2 weeks ago!!

Ya and this is the “world championship” that was just a round. This should be fun hopefully they have T.V coverage on SPEED…somewhere in between Nascar, Nascar 24/7, Nascar Race Day, Tradin paint, Nascar 360, Inside Nascar etc…

LOL i know eh

speed already covers formula drift. i was able to watch two rounds already. speed is starting to move into the tuner scene. from covering formula drift they are also gonna starting airing a show specifically for HIN. since nopi is now defunct and they used to have nopi tunervision.

Some of the stuff you guys are saying really makes you wonder if its worth it all sometimes…

Why is Marco in and Freddy’s not Kendrick?

Heres the info on it…

Marco Santos will be racing in Long Beach California for the 2008 Redbull Drifting Championship sanctionned by Formula D series. According to Santos, Fred Girard declined his participation earlier this week due to sponsorship issues. Marco will bring the Infiniti G35 to California, leaving his new 350Z project for 2009 DMCC season. They have been working day and night since earlier this week on the G35 to rebuild the entire car. DMCC second place winner claim that he needs the G35 to perform as it’s best for drift fans from accross the world. He also wants the car to be more reliable that it was in final round in Edmonton, Alberta.

We can remember that his turbo fell off and his drivetrain failed, things he don’t want to happend in California. We will try to talk to Fred Girard, 2008 DMCC Championship winner and get his opinion on why he will not go to Formula D this year.

I guess it was a money issue, witch is kinda sad to be having at the pro level.

I should have made it clear. Making it big as in compete in D1GP or FD. That is making it big. I did not mention anything about money.

We all know that drifting makes insignificant amount of money. Those who love it do it because they love the sport. Not many people do it for the money.

For those passionate drifters, making it big would be to compete professionally. That would have been my dream too.

wish i can come watch this. I’ve always wanted to watch some drifting in cali but i’ll be at dominican w/ the gf that weekend. GET SOME GOOD VIDS !!!

Dude!! How could you forget me?? I was the first one to book my flight!!! LOL

amm…sidewayss14…Im so bad with names, post a pic of ur car of ur face so I know. Me solly man

just like most of the grassroots motorsports you never make money, best you can do is cover your costs to do something you love and have a sponsor that understands that.

Good luck Marco and Continental/General Tire!

First ever “olympics of drifting” is happening so if you havent booked your tickets to LAX do it now, you still have time!

I think thats brigs kendrick.
I may be wrong lol.

yea thats briggs

ooops…me solly man…anyone that knows me I’m so bad with that kinda stuff.

Red Bull Drifting World Championship Prepares for Historical Weekend;
Features To Include Parade, Draw Party, and Special Purpose Built Drift Track

Long Beach, Calif. – November 11, 2008 – The Red Bull Drifting World Championship prepares for a historical drifting weekend. The city of Long Beach will play host for the event and activities have been scheduled throughout the week including a parade of cars through the downtown area and a draw party at the local establishment, “Smooth’s Sports Grill” on Thursday, November 13, 2008. A special purpose built drifting track will be created on the Port of Long Beach for this event.

Pre-event activities for the Red Bull Drifting World Championship include a parade of the competition drifting cars from the Port of Long Beach and through to Downtown Long Beach on Pine Ave on Thursday November 13 at 5:45 PM. The cars will be displayed until 9:30 PM on Pine Ave. A driver autograph session will be held before the draw party on Pine Ave at 6:00 PM featuring the Top 32 Drivers. A “draw” party will be held immediately following the parade of cars and the autograph session inside of Smooth’s Sports Grill and will feature the official announcement of the qualifying order for the main event on Sunday, November 16.

“We are excited to have Formula DRIFT’s hometown Long Beach as the host city for this historical event,” says Jim Liaw, president and co-founder of Formula DRIFT. “Long Beach has been very supportive of drifting and holding this event on the Port of Long Beach will be very monumental.”

A special purpose built drifting track will be unveiled on the Port of Long Beach. The course will feature (6) turns and a high speed right-hand entry that will push the drivers into the 100+mph range. The course will be the first of it’s kind and will be both fast and technical and will push the drivers to their limits for the ultimate drifting competition.

32 of the world’s best drifters will gather on Saturday and Sunday on the Port of Long Beach to compete for the largest prize purse in drifting history. The top 32 will compete in a head-to-head tandem bracket format with the winner from each bracket advancing onto the next round on his way to becoming the first ever Red Bull Drifting World Champion.

The Red Bull Drifting World Championship will feature the Formula DRIFT Pro/Am competition on Saturday and a special opening ceremony by the Red Bull Air Force skydiving team on Sunday. A special half-time performance by the band, “Crooked X.” will be another highlight on Sunday. In addition to the drifting action, there will be some of hottest cars in the Country on display like the Scion Fuse Concept Car, the Tomei Time Attack Subaru Impreza, the Lexus IS-F’s of Import Tuner & 0-60 Magazines and the R35 Skyline & Lamborghini LP640 of SP Engineering.
