I have no experience with boosted cars, however I am helping my friend with his Vortech install on his Mustang GT His dyno date is tomarrow morning at Kennedys. After plenty of fucking around it has come down to the last minute and we have everything but proper clamps for the charge pipe/ power cooler etc. With his current pulley, he should be making 10lbs of boost or less, is this going to be an issue? I asked him if they are going to come apart under boost and he doesnt think so. Your thoughts?
i would go to innovative or swerve. dunno who else would have them. and get some t-bolt clamps. rather than taking the chance and losing a pipe. thats what i had on all my pipes when the spec was boosted. better to be safe than sorry
what are regular clamps you speak of.i have worm clamps on mine and its fine
thats what hes asking if work clamps are fine. yeah they might not ever fail but they are more likely to than t-bolts
I heard of major boost leak issues with those type of clamps and improper boost(from a leak) could throw off the tune?
sshhhh
Its just for temp. We just need to get it to Kennedys tomarrow at 9am :D…Maybe they will have some proper hardware there? If not thats the next thing he will be buying.
i boost 22psi on worm clamps. As long as the pipes are rolled, bevelled, beeded at the ends you will be fine.
yup! Thanks man
Ran 10 pounds on my turbo stang with worm clamps also with no problems
I was t-bolt clamps all except 2 of them and one of those 2 would pop off all the damn time when I was running 15ish pounds of boost.
If you are going to use worm clamps use the shielded ones. Your hose will last longer.
put epoxy dots on the pipe so the clamps need to slip over the bumps before coming undone
that is a good idea.
My turboSHO is all worm clamps and with the exception of one joint I have never had any problems with my worm clamps. The one joint that keeps popping off is not a work clamp related failure though. average boost 10-12 but have run as much as 17-20.
Kennedy’s is ran by a pretty nice dude, he should have the clamps there for you no problem.
