Repairing a Cracked Transmission Case

im sure there arnt that many options but they are out there. hell i saw a buick deal for nothing down and like 249 a month for a full size buik boat

I cant believe noone has made a Topanga reference yet…I am disappointed in you all.

Yeah I don’t post that often but every thread I start somebody brings up the fact that my username is a Boy Meets World reference.

Anyway, I don’t know that much about leasing, but I guess if she has full insurance coverage she would be ok when she destroys it. Even still, the only debt we have is her student loans, and I’m trying to keep payments and such to a minimum. I just don’t like the idea of not even owning the car.
And some of you guys think it’s gonna cost a fortune to slap the car together. To get it drivable I need a radiator, short PS hardline, upper motor mount bracket, o2 sensor. Of course it will need lights and probably a hood to go get the 4-wheel alignment that it should have had before the accident. As long as they can get the car in spec no problem shouldn’t it be fine (fine for what it is - a relatively reliable and safe economy car)?

The auto to manual swap won’t cost much. I’ve swapped enough engines and transmissions to not be afraid of the labor hours I’ll put in. And the dollars that I’ll spend on parts will be minimal. Buying the used flywheel and getting it surfaced, and buying a new clutch kit will be about the extent of it after I get the trans. I guess it depends on where I get the hydraulics as well.
The reasoning for the manual swap is that it won’t cost much more than repairing or replacing the auto. And the auto’s for these cars aren’t super reliable.

I came in here to post a Topanga reference.

Tell Topanga to figure it out, she is the smart one.

Seriously though now is the time to acquire debt if you have none. Interest rates are so low that you are crazy to not just use the banks money to your advantage. Go buy a decent economy car and get a loan from penfed for less than 2%. Or if you decide that you are comfortable leasing do that and these payments will be even lower.

Assuming $500 down, and you pay taxes for all of the following:
2012 Ford Focus - $9,900 - http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?tracktype=usedcc&csDlId=&csDgId=&listingId=107576717 - $203 /Month (48) / $165 /Month (60)

2012 Honda Fit - 10,995 - http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?tracktype=usedcc&csDlId=&csDgId=&listingId=123731236 - $225 /Month (48) / $183 /Month (60)

2012 Chevy Cruze - 11,995 - http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?tracktype=usedcc&csDlId=&csDgId=&listingId=126334494 - $250 /Month (48) / $201 /Month (60)

2014 Ford Focus Lease - 36 Month; 10,500 miles /yr; $500 down - $193 /Month

** All my figures are approximations. Please do not yell at a dealer because some guy on the internet said you could get a car for $xxx /Month. In fact please do not negotiate with a dealer on monthly payments as you are only screwing yourself. Also I did not incluse a hyundai or a kia in my figures, you can get someone else to look at those.

The fender looks rusty because I had already replaced it once. It was a buffalo fender that looked decent at the time.

A few hours later. The only unibody damage my untrained eye can find is the mangled sheet metal right at the pass. side nose of the car.
