Road salt is poisoning water bodies, study finds

i’ve always been pissed off at the amount of salt they dump on the roads. its such a primitive, dumb, simpleminded and temporary solution. it’s one of those things where you know there will be bad consequences (like rotting our cars and killing our environment) but no one seems to care because all this world ever looks for is quick fixes, and solving problems with OTHER problems! truth is, its not going to get better, and if you keep dumping salt everywhere, is no one is really thinking of the results? i’m convinced that with a little money invested in research, we can find a better solution. fuck, stick a hugeass heater at the back of a truck and drive it around, you’ll create more jobs needing people to constantly drive them while you’re at it

[cabinet has been debating putting water on the plants instead of Brawndo]
Pvt. Joe Bowers: What are these electrolytes? Do you even know?
Secretary of State: They’re… what they use to make Brawndo!
Pvt. Joe Bowers: But why do they use them to make Brawndo?
Secretary of Defense: [raises hand after a pause] Because Brawndo’s got electrolytes.

Would this be before or after your gas pedal gets stuck and you crash into an SUV @ 90mph, flip over and burst into a ball of flames?

Just curious, lol.

Idiocracy was such a dumb movie, no pun intended lol

That’s along the same lines as the global warming farce…there is no way a Prius hit 90mph…LOL.

at LEAST one per winter… I guess its pick your posion tho, stone chips and windsheilds out west or out of control rust here in toronto.

Don’t put anything on the roads, what a waste. They have ashvault alternatives, add in some sort of agent that has a lower freezing point then water and a binding agent and BOOM you have a road surface that ice can’t adheer to; that in conjunction with plows and snow tires there would be 0 issues.

Exactly!

So if we dump salt all over the road eventually it washes off the road and into streams and… gasp increases the salinity of the water… I figured they used magic salt that evaporated.

In other news after a 12 year study scientists say the sky really is blue…

If you cannot afford a winter vehicle, the vehicle your driving isnt too nice to see salt.
If you are a business man, you will be trading your car in for something newer and nicer before the salt does enough damage to it to care.

Yes, there is no reason to keep your toys on the road year round. I dont like the sand idea, I say keep using the salt, hell half the times the plows dont get the roads plowed good enough anyways. How long have they been using salt? it works, stop fucking with shit that works.

“gay abandon”

Karter, you have some weird ideas. Weird and wrong.

Never understood the point of spending all of this money on a nice car to let it sit in the garage while you drive a shitbox and look poor…

Roads down south can become very icy during periods of extended cold, as sand can only do so much up north it may cause a lot of other issues. Especially given the quantity it’s used in.

the sewer systems cant handle water in western ny, you guys honestly think they should use sand?
Hell it takes 10 years to get a bridge done, do you really want the blvd tore up for a sewer project?

Be realistic
