lol… old boats of the pre-plastic car age were made to stay intact on impact… this is bad for occupants… good for repairs.

Car companies and insurance companies realized it was cheaper to fix cars then people… thus changing the manufacturing process… and of course the materials on the vehicle. Plastic is there to take the damage… and either get completelt crunched… or move the energy to a less vital part of the car… like the front end… instead of the cabin.
