Crash in Orleans County leaves a man fighting for his life Friday morning.

Sheriff’s deputies say 19 year old Nicholas Scarborough lost control of his car and flipped over down an embankment Thursday afternoon on Spoil Bank Road in the Town of Barre.

Scarborough was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with unknown injuries.

His passenger, 22 year old Lynn Kirchner Jr. was airlifted to Strong, where he is in critical condition

i couldn’t find pics, but it sucks to be his passenger… his name is lynn…

This Morning’s Headlines click on it and it’s alittle bit past the half way

wow… thats no longer a car…

holy crap, that thing got messssssssed up, wonder how fast he was going

i saw that this morning too, and i was hoping it was not anyone from here… :frowning:

shitty

damn that car was pretty far into that field too he had to have been going pretty fast

maybe auto makers should start using 100 mph bumpers instead of 10 mph

holy shit… hope they turn out ok.

thats the number one reason why I like my big/heavy cars… an SRT neon (or any smaller car for that matter), while a good performer, is a death trap

anything is a death trap at the speed he must have been going to do that.

however a big heavy car that cant go over 65, and doesnt have a 19 year old inexperianced driver in it… now thats a safe car.

Wow, that car is messed up. Hope the driver and passenger get better.

That’s a complete myth…

lol… old boats of the pre-plastic car age were made to stay intact on impact… this is bad for occupants… good for repairs.

Car companies and insurance companies realized it was cheaper to fix cars then people… thus changing the manufacturing process… and of course the materials on the vehicle. Plastic is there to take the damage… and either get completelt crunched… or move the energy to a less vital part of the car… like the front end… instead of the cabin.

I disagree… a vehicle with more mass is less likely to move for other objects (more or less, will destroy other things before destroying itself) with all other variables being the same. Not to mention, with smaller interior space, is easier to get pinched/trapped than with a roomier car.

now I cant say all accidents are the same, because their not… but rearended in my old Thunderbird (lady hit me doing around 70mph while I was at a dead stop) the backend got moved over and crushed pretty bad. My passenger and I were fine for the most part (minus whiplash and cuts/bruises)

on the other hand, last year a good friend of mines girlfriend was rearended in her honda civic on Rt. 5, dude hit her doing about 55 mph (and she was moving too). ANYONE who would have been in the back of that car would of been dead. The trunk lid was honestly sitting behind the drivers seat. Her legs were pinched between the stearing wheel and dashboard and needed to get cut from her car.

Like I said though, not every accident is the same so thats really not a good argument but I’ll still take my bigger cars over economy cars. Would you rather hit a tree driving a crown victoria or a Geo Metro? lol

crumple zones

I’m not talking 70’s vs. 2000’s either lol… I’m talking new vs. new

The Neon is hardly the safety force to be reckon with.

It’s unfortunate for the people in the car. Sadly now isn’t the time to go “Gosh, the WRX is actually safe in tests, maybe I should have bought it instead. Oh but winning races in parking lots really does matter more than my well-being.”

At least that’s one thing the Jetta’s got going for it. IIHS small car best pick.

I would also prefer a large car … unless it was on top of me… then I’d take a moped.

Not true, I hit things in the back seat of my big 4-door occasionally and she always walks away like she got off a horse, no damage though…
