S14 spoiler question

Hey,

Was thinking about going spoiler-less, or at least seeing what it looks like…if I take off the stock spoiler on my Kouki, will there be noticeable holes on the trunk?

Also, does the JDM aero spoiler fit just bolt onto my existing trunk if I were to get one?

Also #2, does anyone have one for sale in black?

Thanks.

bump?

lol to ur bump.
judging from the placement of the stock one to the jdm kouki one… those holes would be there. they wont be THAT noticable on a black car…

id say take off the stock one… throw a small piece of electrical tape over the hole …and it rlly shouldnt be that noticable.

  1. Yes it will leave holes in your trunk. The exact size of the bolts/screws that you will take out of it (iirc, are fair sized, enough to let water in as well as being noticeable)

  2. Probably not, could be wrong, this is best guess.

  3. There have been a few for sale lately in the fs section. Search.

^^ water getting in is a big no no.

i know rr32gtrr (Ali in his gts) he has tape covering the old holes from the spoiler… so thats where my idea came from

Its a good temp fix, but youd need to get that welded up properly and painted for the best results. IMO, cars without spoilers are much better looking, especially if they dont see any track time.

u could fiberglass it… + bondo… than prime/paint…

Please don’t, I really hate when people do that. If your going to remove it and do all that crap, I will weld it over. Provide me a MIG welder, a shop(or driveway), and about an hour. All flat metal, ready to prime + paint. But I’m sure somebody has to be selling a clean trunk lid. Either way, good luck with your project.

Grab a CF trunk and call it a day.

jdm kouki wing ftw !
do it man, shaved trunks are not cool IMO.

Meh, I want the Origin lip, a CF trunk, or the JDM Kouki wing – but don’t really have money for any of those right now (except maybe a used JDM’r).

My car is all scratched up too, so I don’t really want to spend much time on my trunk/spoiler until I can afford a paint job (probably like 2 years away)…

Was just wondering if it would be worth taking off just for a change of looks or whatever, or to see if I like it, maybe take some photos (I’m a photo-whore), etc.

Thanks guys!

The jdm Kouki wing has completely different mounting holes than the usdm one.

Don’t take it off, just find a used trunk lid and spray it black if you want to see how it fits. They show up here a few times a year anyways, and are not expensive… The odd time, you might even find someone to trade with that wants the wing.

I’ve had a trunk lid with holes from usdm spoiler that was patched. Best way is to weld the holes shut and then have a tiny bit of body filler or whatever to smooth it out. That’s one option.

Another option similar to that is you could take the spoiler off and plug the holes with some rubber grommets, I’ve seen body shops use these grommets for the same purpose.

And if you decide to go Kouki wing. I know because this is what I’ve done, the kouki wing will have 2 studs in total, 1 on each side. These studs will line up with 2 of the factory holes. But it will leave the other two factory holes exposed.

I bought this spare trunk that came with USDM spoiler hoping the holes would line up, but the ones I circled in red sit just outside of the base of the spoiler and will need to be welded and filled.

Or it could be the other way around, it’s been so long since I put my kouki wing on. Either way one of those holes sit just outside of the base of the spoiler…

Hope that helps.

Jon

Thanks Jon.

My trunk is scratched so I’d probably just replace the whole thing…I guess I’ll just wait until I have $ for an entire paint job, and at that point pickup a CF trunk, or another trunk with a Kouki wing.
