I want to be able to scan serial off of hard drives and record them in an excel sheet. Has anyone done this before?
Yes. Get a USB barcode scanner for <$60. It shows up on you computer as an input device. Open excel and the barcode you can will be entered where the cursor is like it was being typed on a keyboard.
any phone apps that will scan and store? My boss would most likely buy them, but I’d rather not get it for something so minimal.
most just scan and submit to a search for the product.

it wouldn’t be hard to do. there is an sdk to read barcodes so you simply could photograph all the barcodes and then parse them on your pc for the serials.
