Gutted the XBOX, swapped the power with a CarPC Intelligent Power supply and rigged a custom power regulator. Why? Because it now runs inverterless and directly off of the 12V battery. No signal noise from an inverter, about a pound lighter (every hp counts, right?), and where is an extra brick going to go in this tiny vehicle anyway??
Moved internals to locations around the tC. Motherboard and power installed out of sight. All Cables extended 13 feet to reach various points of the vehicle.
Drives mounted in the glovebox in a custom fg enclosure.
Power buttons and controller ports re-routed to the center console
What I learned in this DIY project (first time for everything, but it was fun):
Electrical
Fiberglassing
Fabrication
Sanding, painting
Patience, man…lots of patience
Anymore info or just wanna see pictures of the car heres the website.
that statement makes no sense. it would not have been possible. there are only 3 drives that work with the xbox, licensed by MS, and they are all proprietary to the system. and aside from the custom power pinouts, they also have a slightly larger footprint than a computer drive…
It would appear that you know a lot more about the XBox internals than myself.
Do you have a reason WHY? Its just a DVD player, correct? I’m guessing that if you got a model number from one of those models, you can just reflash another type. It just has to be able to read DVDs. Or, I could be wrong, I dunno.
Custom power pinouts are easy. You can always splice the wires. As for the IDE cable, if that is proprietary then I understand your point.
ok, the ide is standard but the 8 pin connection for power on/off and eject/close is not. ever notice that most pc dvd’s have the eject button built into the tray?
the xbox passes input from the forward facing button thru the mobo out through that cable.
now say you bust out your voltmeter and decide to build said custom power cable that can recieve input and tell this new drive when to open and close…you have an even bigger problem (aside from the big ugly useless button on the tray)…
the xbox drive reads backwards. meaning normal pc dvd drives read from the inside out, the xbox goes from the outside in. thats why you can’t play cdr burned versions of games on the drive. ok, but you can install a pc-dvd drive…but there is a catch. you must have a modded xbox, and you must still have your original xbox drive attached in the ide chain. aside from additional space you have added to this install you have a major functionality issue…your modded pc-dvd drive will play all your hacked games, but the original content can ONLY be played on your original xbox drive.
…yes i know a little about xbox internals. that happens to be my project pictured above.
