Scooped an Allroad for the wifey

The wife’s 99 Avant was getting pretty long in the tooth and also small for hauling around kids. We’ve been talking about getting an Allroad for a while now so I finally started looking pretty aggressively a couple weeks ago. Monday am I stumbled upon this gem.

2005 , 2.7T
55k miles, one owner
Premium and cold weather packages
essentially like new condition

The only thing I wasnt super keen on is the interior color. But considering the condition of the car we decided it didnt matter so much. Plus it wont be so bad once I rid it of that awful woodgrain.

Picked it up near Pittsfield Mass yesterday.

Dealer pics.

Nice find

I dont think the interior color is that bad considering it pretty much matches the exterior. Cover the wood with some matte black vinyl to match the door handle plastic?

I loved everything about my allroad exept the mpg’s but that was comparing it to my other cars lol. Mine had 250k when I sold it original bags, original trans (auto) original turbos. They are great cars if well cared for plus the 704 mod makes them sweet

704 mod?

wow 402 mod
sorry

I had just called my sister in charlotte had her area code on the mind i guess… lol

Haha ok, That makes more sense now. I was like WTF is this mod i havent heard of.

Dan

Nice  looks really clean. Its amazing how many of these cars are still on the road and how many people still love them. Too bad the new ones aren’t as great.

Any plans for it?

Nothing much for now. Just tint, and wrap the wood grain trim nonsense.

Dan

Glad you got one that looks straight. The last one was decent looking, but man, what a basketcase.

Ya, this one is infinitely nicer. I just need to find a damn cargo cover.

Im also thinking about GIAC… any chance mpg’s could increase with it, lol when shes doesnt have the little pedal pinned down?

Dan

Are you still building the VW Cab for her?

Ya, its been on hold for over a year now. Im just getting back on track after last year with my dad and stuff.

Hoping to get back to it in the next month or so.

Dan

They are migrating to ski towns out west. I am always amazed how many I see per capita in ski towns.
The best suspension mod is the remove and replace with coil-over mod.
Just make sure not to get springs that break. WTF? :frowning:

Well, I can say that mileage didn’t get worse when I did it initially on mine. It’s always going to suck with these though. I tend to average about 17 around town, and if I get 21 on a trip, I’m really happy.

Also, I’ll roll the pre-purchase inspection labor charge on the one we looked at for you into labor for flashing this one, so all you’d have to do is pay for the software itself.

I have a rubber floor mat for the cargo area if your interested in the roof of my garage but not the cargo cover.

I would recommend unitronic tune cough cough :stuck_out_tongue:

Great pick up

Is it Allroad specific, or like a generic one. Also does it have molded sides like the weathertech ones? I might be interested.

Dan

They were A6 Avant mats, that came with an A6, or Allroad sticker in the box. Semi-Rigid plastic like a Weathertech tray. Be prepared for a Torque Converter Lockup Clutch Seal failure… $1k for a Torque converter and avg billable time was 11.5 hours to pull the gearbox.

ya it was a factory mat i can grab a pic if you want. i was planing t get another allroad eventually but probably wont happen. love my tdi wagon too much now.

my tranny was untouched with 250k on it. i did swap to the schafer(sp?) trans-fluid though.
