Sensors needed from KA when swapping SR

Like the topic says, which sensors are needed from the KA to run on the SR20? I assume the speed sensor, and what else?

Water temp sensor if you swap an S13 SR into an S14.

Nope, speed sensor isn’t required. They use km/h in Japan too.
Coolant temp sensor is the only one I use from the KA. It’s above the TB… my mind has gone blank… there’s two, one for teh gauge, one for teh ECU, you nee dto use teh KA one for the gauge, I think it’s teh single wire one… but like I said my mind went blank.

Are you still doing that same swap? You’re not kidding baout it being teh longest swap in history!

-Martin.

haha yes, Im contacting Guiness about it actually. Thanks for the help!

You could alwys slap it on a dyno…

There’s what an 8% difference in the final drive so that throws you off 8km at 100km/hr… Big deal?

Speed sensor:

My own experience:

with my SR speed sensor, I hit the fuel cutoff (180 km/h) when in actuality I’m going only 100 km/h (on the highway). I couldn’t even drive regular highway speeds with my SR speed sensor.

So, yes, you will very likely need it.

:o Never herd of that problem before, thats whack!

It’s not too much trouble to take the speed sensor off the KA mission when the engine is already out of the car. Why not spend the little time it takes to swap the sensors. At least your guaranteed an accurate speedo.

Well my KA is no longer around, so it may take some tracking down. Souljourner, you have an S14, so if what Philip said is correct, then I may not need it. Well, we’ll see.

Yep, mine is an S14. But you know what? Philip is usually right  so go ahead and finish your swap. If you need it, then you can look into getting it.

The speed sensor generates a pulse it does not care what part of the world you are in. The spedometer goes the same distance it just has diffrent markings on it.

Hey Yoshyo, are you the one that bought my engine hoist?

I dont think thats Yoshyo…

Joshyo? Yup, that was me

hehe I see…

what have you left to do now? Doing wiring?

haha no, I wish… not a lot has happened since I picked it up from you, in fact, I think ive only put a couple hours of work into it since then. Dont worry, if its not ready for this spring I will officially ban myself from SON. :o

Heheh I see, well don’t ban yourself, we like having you around.

That’s great info Phil… I’d only noticed masive errors when US and Canadian (mph, kmph) ones weeere mixed up.

If you have any more info on which model’s had which ratios I’d be interested.

-Martin.

I’ve seen a few conflicting reports on this. There are 2 different final drive ratio’s on JDM S chassis cars with the SR & manual tranny:

4.083 and 3.692.

The S14 SR manual I have (pdf download) says 3.692. I’ve read other websites which state the S13 used 4.083… and some say 3.692. The NA 240SX used 4.083.

I guess unless you have the original diff, there is no way of knowing for sure. Run it as is and if the speedo appears off, then swap the speed sensor.[/quote]

Sound like yours is a US spec car.

nope… not at all. My car is a 95 240sx… canadian version (LE model)…

The vehicle speed sensor was a S13 180sx. didn’t work… the ratio was about 1 to 1.8… i.e. 100 km/h in real life = 180km/h by the VSS.

if it was because of american, maybe I’d be reading 100 km/h = 160… which would make more sense.
