Setting up a server

never did a server thing trying to figure it out. Anyone… Help please?

Ive been in the IT world for some time now. What do you need help with exactly? Are you setting up a server for your house or to host to the net? How many users will you serve? What will you be hosting? What services will be you running?

im setting it up on my computer to host it to the net. Probably only like 5 people. Hosting html files and videos. Services probably none.

Are you running windows (what version) or unix/linux (what kernel)?

windows Xp

Do you have any experience in this kinda thing or doing this for the first time?

what kind of connection are you on? you can just run IIS which is built into XP

Ewww I forgot all about IIS.

Heres are the complete setup instructions via MS.

ok Ive seen this IIS thing before but as the instuctions state: “From the Components list, click Application Server, and then click Details.” I dont even have the option for “Application Server”

n/m IIS doesnt come with home edition I got to go look for something real quick

yeah Home edition comes with PWS… or personal web server… you can do the same thing with that just not as good as IIS

i can get you webhosting if you want, it would be a lot easier and stable

that be nice how much tho?

lol

let me know what you need… it should take you no longer than an hour from start to finish… xp is not a server hahaha
