Setup my XP Pro SP2 comp as a local intranet server

I need to setup my XP Pro SP2 computer to run as a webserver. Right now I use PHPdev, but that isn’t going to work for what I need it for. I need to run MySQL 4.0.22 (I think that’s the most recent standard version) and PHP 5 or 4, I think 4 would work better for what I need it for.

So… my question is HOW to do this? I’ve never setup PHP and MySQL full versions to run as a webserver.

google will provide you your setup answers

www.php.net and dev.mysql.com will provide you your downloads

enable IIS on the machine through windows, have the windows cd handy

Eek… windows CD I have is 3 years old, I just use windows updates a lot.

ok… well then find an update to install IIS6… or just use the CD, it does not matter how old it is… just needs some basic IIS files

iis

apache

apache on windows sucks balls

I’m with bobby311 on this one…If you’re using php and mySQL, why not use apache for the webserver? (posted before refresh on whitey’s post…)

hehehehe
i knew i could stir up some controversy

hahahah

because apache sucks balls on an xpsp2 machine

i don’t think there is much arguement over the topic

she should be using a redhat install or server install for a webserver IMO.

Is it just configuring the thing to get it running at all, or does it just run dog slow?

hehehe, this thread got so hijacked

it did get jacked… and lets just say that microsoft doesn’t play friendly

ho hum… pittspeed runs entirely on Windows, uses IIS6, PHP, MySQL, and Perl. It all runs fine.

honestly, Apache blows nuts. it sucks a major big one and I really see no benefit running apache over a finely tunes IIS6 Box.

I use both apache and IIS during my day, apache is not as great as it once was when its competition was IIS5.

I figured out what I needed to do anyways… my localhost that I use for quote tracking, doesn’t have a password set for MySQL. The software that I wanted to try out, doesn’t work unless you have a password set, period.

My boss doesn’t like the idea anyways… (whatever…) so I don’t need it anymore.
