I suspect that at the instant the powder explodes the bullet is going to be trapped between the inertia of the gun and the rod which is fixed, causing the bullet to deform, locking it into the barrel, then causing the barrel to burst.
If the rod fills the entire barrel leaving no room for the “explosion” force then I believe it may blow up. If there is some room for the bullet to travel inside the barrel it may spread the force enough. Too many variables about the gun as well.
