Silly CAD question

How Can I adjust the scale of something? Say I have a drawing of a building, and the doorway is 3" in CAD, how can I adjust the scale of the drawing so that it will be 3’?

Meaning if i command: dist it will read 3’. Not just plot it to scale, but change the scale of the cad drawing
