I have a drawing that was drawn up for a D-size print.
Now that the powers that be have realized it will be difficult to
get quotes from D-size prints, they want me to break it up into multiple pages.
Is there some easy way of using the layout tabs in Acad to fit my sections to B size (11x17)?
The fastest way I can think of is to make 4 drawings and call it a day…
But thats 4 files I will need to maintain for a group I do not even work for.
I’m semi confused as to what you mean…normally what i do here at work when I’m asked for downsized prints is make extra layout tabs setup for 11X17 and then scale the veiwports down to fit (generally from 1/4 to 1/8 scale for me), then print them out. That way its contained in the orignal drawing file without altering the drawings themselves, just scaling them in a new veiwport

I’m new to paper space and viewports.
I can scale the entire drawing to fit fine.
I just want charts from the model for ex. to be scaled down to an 11x17 print on layout tabs.
ex. charts on one print, notes on another, diagram on a 3rd, etc…

Options not found using 2007 LT?
Only View>Viewport> - “Named Viewports”
…“New Viewports”
… “1 Viewports”
…“2 Viewports”
etc…
No inset option, or any options really.

why not just add layouts to the drawing you are working on?
you could have 4 or 5 layouts in the same file, and then just drop a viewport in each with whatever charts you need.
ok, in your toolbar space, right click on a blank gray spot and a menu should pop up. cursor over “ACAD>” there will be little checkmarks for what toolbars your using. there should be one labled “veiwport”
click that, and then you will have a box that looks like this circled in red:
you can click the button circled in blue, then the box in green is where you select your scale. You click and drag the shape of the veiwport and your good to go
edit, that pic sucks, if you cant see clearly enough what it looks like let me know ill try to get a better screenshot

I would like to have each viewport be defined as the chart boarder and not include info from the surrounding area… If that makes any sense.
I can manage to get the chart on the page, but multiple pages with
the surrounding drawing area cut off looks retarded.

Yes, I can now get the charts to take up most of the page, but it looks crappy as stated above
Also, LT2007 only has 2 buttons and the scale dropdown.

you know you can adjust the size of the viewports right?
just grab the edges and move them to wherever you need it.
if you want multiple charts on one sheet, just add another viewport and size it to whatever you need.

yes, but How do I make scale a View port w/o getting more of the model in it?
there are a bunch of ways
click on viewport, go to properties, select scale
you may have a viewport scale toolbar that can do the same thing too
then once it is the right scale adjust the viewport size to the chart size.

Doing so does not scale viewport content, just makes the viewport larger.
I do not know how to ‘lock’ the content.

I suck at autocad.
Maybe I can be a drafter for halloween?
whenever I drag the grips to enlarge the box, it allows me to see more of the model
and does not scale my chart.
yeah, i told you that to change the size of your viewports, not the scale.
to scale a viewport, you need to select the viewport and go to properties and select the correct scale.
or you can go old school and double click in the viewport and zoom to 1/96xp for 1/8" or 1/48xp for 1/4".
and to do this, double click INSIDE the box so it highlights, then use the dropdown box to select the scale, then double click back outside the box to un-highlight it

i always just click on the viewport frame to select the viewport
double-click into it if you are going to zoom to scale.
i have 2k9 though, they have made some changes.

Well, I managed it somehow.
It kept my zoom setting.
Well see if I can manage it twice
Thanks.
