Seabass thought he wasn’t going to get the shot. He was resigned to just staying in Champ Car for a while. This was a bit unexpected. You figure as long as he doesn’t totally tank this year’s Champ car season, he should be good to go. It will be interesting though because they are using the new Panoz chassis for the series, and teams took delivery YESTERDAY. All new chassis and development, everyone starts at square one. The Sebring tests (if there will be another round) will be interesting.
In an extensive interview with Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport magazine, Scuderia Toro Rosso co-owner criticized the team’s 2006 drivers, Vitantonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed, and paid compliments to triple Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais.
“[Liuzzi and Speed] have shown weaknesses; we want to discuss these with them," Berger said, before suggesting that the pairing lacked focus.
You don’t see superstars like Schumacher and Alonso at too many parties. If they also share our goals, they will sit in our cars. If they do not, a further cooperation would be a waste of time."
That’s exactly what I was looking for. I’d be happy if STR played around with the second seat this season giving randoms a chance to drive. A1GP, GP2, F3000, and former F1 drivers. That’d be the ideal situation, Red Bull isnt going for WDC or WCC with Coulthard, Weber or Tonio, so you might as well learn from it.
Scuderia Toro Rosso has confirmed that Scott Speed will continue racing for the team in 2007. The American’s future remained uncertain in recent months, but after reaching an agreement with the Red Bull-owned squad, the team said he will continue to drive alongside Vitantonio Liuzzi.
