SixSpeed454SS's 1966 GTO project

i got my rattle can of krylon warmed up and ready when you are:tounge:

rattle can FTW…:idb:

You gotta understand there was 25 years difference in those pics.

Bring it on over!

Kidding. I want it to look better than a rattle can job. I’ve already gone thru a couple of cans.

I got a little bit done today, as I restored the a/c-heater box assembly today. Basically took it completely apart & cleaned all the internal passages, repainted the housing, tested all the vacuum pots & put new caulking around the sealing surfaces. These are the things that take alot of time.

Here is a pic of the trips :blue:

nice job tod

my dad has been trying to get ahold of an old GTO for years… His first car ever was a 1970 GTO

see he knows whats up, what happen with you ?

he must be pissed your dating a hippy vw driver:dunno:

Fuckin’ A, that thing’s looking sweet Tod…

Ahhh trips…goodness that’s a glorious sight. Any way we can bolt 'em up to the X, Tod?

I’m sure we can take a sawzall to your hood - er trunk & get them bolted on some way. An NSX with Tri power - Hmmm…

BTW - I am at a standstill on this project due to the shitty weather we are having. It is waaay too cold in my garage to do any paintwork, and I need the firewall painted & the dashboard upper & lower painted. The dash is steel & welded into the car, so it cannot be removed to paint. The firewall just needs a color change to black. Hopefully it’ll warm up soon so I can do this.

Once the firewall is painted, I have alot of assembly I can do. I’ve been buying lots of stuff & have pretty much “restored” all assemblies that I can do for now.

I had a chance today to roll the GTO outside & finally get some pics of it in the daylight. This gives you a better idea of what kind of condition this car is in. Hopefully, if all goes well, I will have a black firewall tomorrow afternoon. If that gets done tomorrow, I will probably be putting the motor/trans in this week & start assembly. I can’t wait to drive this thing!

Finally had a chance to get some work done. The weather allowed us to paint the firewall (2 times). Had some issues with paint running, so I wet sanded it back down & resprayed it this past Tuesday. Today, I unmasked it & started assembly (pedals, dash bracing, master cyl/booster, etc), as well as installed the motor/tranmission. Now it is time to start ordering more parts. I ordered the gas tank on Thursday, so I should be getting that this week. I need to rebuild the 3 carbs, and get the air cleaner assys. The steering box is ready to install, but I need brackets for the pump/alternator to the motor. I need a driveshaft, too. This week, I would like to get all the brakes working, tighten all of the suspension bolts, get the inner fenders, core support, and A/C box ready for paint, and start bolting everything together.

Uh oh. I got a bulge in my pants now. Awesome stuff so far!

its getting there…when do you estimate it being finished

Money is a big thing with any project, though I plan on driving it this summer. It will be on the road, but it will not be finished. The whole car needs painted, but once buffed out, it will look ok for now. I plan on touching up the parts that need done, though. I figure I can work out the bugs & enjoy it for awhile, before taking it apart to paint it.
