So, I got my Gunnars today and I have to say that so far I am pleased.
First and foremost, these are strictly for sitting at a computer terminal all day and definitely not for walking around or driving. I immediately noticed that they have a very slight magnification to them like a set of reading glasses. In other words, everything looks HUUUUUUUGEEEEEAAHHH! OK, enough with that shit. Seriously, it’s actually kind of nice given that anyone who uses a computer for actual work and not for surfing porn uses an extremely high resolution to get the most real estate out of their monitors. And of course, I opted for the yellow.
The next cool thing about these glasses is the fact that they remove some of the “grain” you see in the monitor. That is the most interesting thing to notice because it has always been something I noticed when browsing web pages or command line windows with any sort of text in them. It was almost like a halo effect around the letters and now it’s completely gone!
Unfortunately, like I have read in many other reviews of these, they are very, VERY hard to clean and get smudge free. I don’t know what it is really, but I will liken it to when you begin to use never seize. Just when you think you have it all cleaned off and everything looks good, BAM another silver fucking streak appears from presumably nowhere. Even after I thought I had them cleaned pretty well I changed rooms and they looked worse than ever. On the bright side, when they’re <1" away from your face you don’t notice anything out of the ordinary.
That’s all I have for now, but we’ll see how things go after my eyes adjust to 1. having contacts in them again, and 2. the new Gunnars.
i was looking into these since i sit behind a computer all day and when i leave i have the biggest headache and driving home in traffic is even more irritating…are they worth the $200-300 price?
They’re definitely worth the ~120, but I’d probably buy the contacts before I bought the Rx versions of these. However, if you require expensive contacts or don’t like wearing them, like my wife, then they would definitely be worth it. To be honest, you can’t put a price on relaxing your eyes, or minimizing the stresses on them. These immediately feel different, and they definitely reduce the harshness of your computer screens and fluorescent lighting.
my boss got his yesterday and said that he noticed a difference after wearing them for one day
So these are not prescription ones then… Im interested to see how you feel about them after long term use. You said you opted for yellow, so there are clear ones? I havent looked at the website yet.
These aren’t the prescription ones. I like my contacts so it’s not really an issue for me. Not to mention I don’t need any sort of expensive special contact lenses so they’re cheaper.
There are clear ones, but I really think that the yellow tint adds something to it. Also, they have all sorts of different grades of these things for specific uses. I recommend you look at their website for a minute though, it’s pretty helpful.
The manufacturer claims that there isn’t ANY magnification at all on non-RX versions. Weird shit, lots of people report there is too lol.
Ok, so here it is so far:
It looks like these things do the trick for me. I used to get some awesome stress headaches while working on the computers and now it seems they have gone away completely. I don’t know how better to explain it, but it’s very soothing to wear these and not be hit by the harshness of the lights and the monitors. I haven’t changed a single other thing I do except for wear the glasses and I’ll be damned if it hasn’t helped me out a great deal!
