So I was going to do a brake job today.. and..

Mark --What were you running for pads before the swap -( Hawk Blue/black? Porterfields? Etc ) -and how is the bite on the track compared to the pads for the AZC setup?

Also --Are you running the 13 inch rotors or the 12.2 inch ones?

Thanks

Does anyone know where I can buy these brakes locally under $1000. I don’t want to pay shipping, taxes, fees, charges and all that crap.

Mark didn’t you claim stock brakes are more than enough? Why did you go to these brakes?

Because he found out that these come stock on an SHO Taurus.

if mark said that i would put money on that fact that he either said “stock brakes are good enough for most of the cars in this club” or “stock brakes are good enough for street driven cars” both of which are absolutely true and your brakes are fucked and/or you need to stop buying shitty rotors, pads or fluid if you think otherwise

sucks that happened to you man… -1 240sx in the sheridan parking lot

stock brakes are really good but if you track all the time it only makes sense to upgrade i ran stock brakes at the last MTD and i didnt really find any problems altho im no mario andretti

The best street / occasional track setup to me would be:

Hawk HP+ or HPS all around with 180sx front calipers, stock rear calipers, SS lines all around.

And Ford Dot 3 brake fluid. (550 degree boiling point). But if you want to go the extra mile, just get RBF 600. I can guarantee that it will be more than enough for 90% of the people here on SON.

Also, this thread was created to show off my broken studs. Moral of the story, use a proper torque wrench when tightening your wheels. You never know what can happen.

roger = ahmed?

Quite hypocritical since ahmed used to suggest you to get these brakes and you used to make idiotic jokes about it. Now you got the brakes.

To be honest, the only reason why I got these brakes was so that I could show it off at the Bing’s meet and on Son, I purposely broke my studs so I could post pics.

And ahmed always talked about 300zx brakes and 6 pot brakes that were bigger.

yes… i knew it ^^^^^^^^^^

None the less I found it amusing that you of all people who was so insulting towards a_ahmed creating rumors about him, causing mockery and spreading bullshit to people that never had the chance to actually speak to him in real life would resort to that which he suggested to begin with. I believe he runs the same setup now too last I heard, he hangs around a few foreign s chassis forums and racing (track oriented) forums…

You were such an outspoken propagator of stock brakes and 300zx brakes being too excessive but then went on to something like this, while a_ahmed suggested this in the first place amongst many other things.

He had experience with stock and 300zx setups with different pad setups but was just not satisfied with the performance. I always believed you ran stock and q45 brakes with a few different pad setups track and daily. I think you just started driving your car much harder for the first time to realized maybe it’s not so great and not adequate enough performance-wise. Daily traffic anything is probably descent including what came with the car from the factory. Just doesn’t mean it’s great compared to modern cars, in fact sucks.

None the less congratulation on these brakes, I’m sure they are not failing you and are performing very well daily and on track. I know Dave personally and I know a few people who run them  Could however source the kit myself through wilwood though, but Dave put together a nice kit to begin with.

Well whatever the case, those are the best bang for the buck brakes. Even though 300zx brakes are ‘relatively’ cheap to maintain they do suck and are a slight improvement over stock, but not phenomenally. One can still fade 300zx brakes plenty given a good thumping. Good thing about 300zx brakes are cheap blank rotors, relatively cheap pads although the better stuff gets more expensive (by the way HP+ pads are mainly for auto-x hence an on/off feeling), and shitty old calipers that may need rebuilding from time to time. Last but not least the unfortunate added unsprung weight aluminum or not. I have weighed the willwood calipers and 2 piece rotors, brackets, etc… it’s an awesome deal. Also like any other setup you can get street pads, aggressive street pads, track pads and well if you want custom pads as well. I know a few fellows who can make good pads down in the states.

I’m guessing you havnt seen the thread about you a couple spots down in car chat? might want to check that out.

I think you guys have an a_ahmed phobia

I think he had a point about the attitude of son240
