So I'm thinking about building a "chopper" this winter...

The skinny tire look is coming back/is back.

I like where this is going very interested to see what comes of it. And yes I know the v4 Ls isn’t feasible just being an ass.

My bike has a v4 in it… :-p

Minus the woman.

Moto-Guzi aircooled/oil cooled Vtwin, shaft drive, some of those would be appealing as a transplant.

You said shaft

while thats true you have to remember that my bike is 53 years old.

some of my frustration was due to the carb/mag tuning but i feel like there was some maintenance issues that were overlooked in the years that passed that are now catching up with the bike.

that being said i love my bike even if i have to fix it often

I hear that. I love old panheads and shovels especially. However based on what he was talking about wanting in a chopper, that’s why I recommended against older unless he was going to spend big money. 53 years old doesn’t really matter (If I had my way I would be riding a 33 ELD). What matters most is the maintenance like you pointed out and harleys require a rigid maintenance schedule and frequent wrench time, not to mention just fighting the problems that arise due to bad designs over the years. Sort of like a DSM. So if you want certain kind of reliability out of your bike this is a huge point of consideration.

Flat-tracker might be right up his alley too Don. That thing is hot, and a lot less SUCK options for powerplant too.

I seriously thought this thread was about building a helicopter.

Don, I think I hate every bike that you posted…

Much better idea

I would drive this. I am not sure why but for some reason I think this is awesome.

the bike you posted kind of reminds me of a bobber build. Roland Sands has done some awesome builds with buells and turning them into cafe racers. also Jesse Rooke has some awesome looking stuff. i would take a look at there bikes and see if you like anything they have done. when i come home from overseas i plan on building something like Roland Sands did on biker build off. its named the glory stomper

post moar of what’s on your mind?

I still think some sort of kick ass out of the ordanry motor would set the bike aside from anything else. Buy my raptor 770, gear it up and keep the bike light weight.
If you wanted to, lower the comperssion and turbo the motor.

It should run on steam.
