So the Fd still has me over a barrel

I finally finished swapping in a new/used set of turbos today figuring that my low boost problems would be solved. Not the case, all back together and on the initial test drive i am taking it easy for a few miles. After it is up to temperature, i punch it, “sonofabitch!” still only making 5psi., the same as it was before the teardown. Still feeling good that i replaced the old turbos that were spewing oil everywhere, i wonder what the hell could be the problem. It has to be in the overly intricate and complicated vacuum control system for the wastegates. UGH!!!

sucks to hear man! although, like you said… new turbos

goodluck figuring out the problem, and if they are still giving you a problem in the end, fork over the 10k + to get an ls1 in that biotch

ask xander im sure he can figure it out

Have you replaced the rats nest of vacum lines yet? If not I reccomend that no matter what. Time consuming, but worth it to know you have no leaks anywhere. Also there are some soleniods in the rats nest that could be your issue also.

yea i’m willing to bet its in that rats nest, might as well just convert to non sequential

i just started to re do the vac lines i should get to the rats nest sometime later this week and see if thats the problem. i’ll prob stay sequential for now if any big changes happen it will be a moderately large single next year.

if theres anything u need let me know, i think i have most if not all of the rats nest still sitting in the basement

I will have to pull it apart and see if any of the solenoids are shot. thanks for the offer Jay.

i doubt a noid is shot… just usually a line cracks from the heat

go non sequential

I’d go non seq but to be honest i just dont feel like pulling the turbos out again to port the wastegate and weld the flapper valve open. I’ll just have to see when i pull the intake manifold to check the nest.

i told you you shouldn’t have bought that gay car :touchy:, you should have called me yesterday i would’ve came over for a bit to put my two cents in, your bro told me you were having some problems

hey man, sry to hear about your woes  but yea run thru your vac lines, thats liek gotta be it, if worst comes to worst go non seq, ill come over and help ya get the turbos off again

i’ve actually seen a few people have solenoids go bad for some reason lately, so i wouldn’t rule it out just yet

i’ll check everything this week and see whats up.

sux your still having problems, if u need any help im always available man

yea i guess they are gettin up there in years so i dont doubt it… i never saw it cept for ones that peole broke nipples off of

I bet X could fix it

Sometimes one of the best ways to fix your problem, especially with the FD’s would be to pull all the vacuum lines out of the car, and re-run ALL of them with new silicone line and reference a service manual for the correct locations. It will take some time, but in the end, after hooking up one line at a time, you will know it will be done right.

GIT-R-DONE…

Thats what I was thinking, and when you do the vac lines be very careful with these. I would recommend cutting off the old hoses vs. trying to pull/twist them off, those solenoids get brittle.

list of potential problems:

  1. built outside USA
  2. turbo, not supercharger
  3. no pistons.
