Softphone, VoIP gurus please step in

Im trying to set up a softphone on my laptop to do work from home. I already have a VoIP provider so now Im looking for the software. Essentially, I have a list of names and phone numbers that I have to call daily to follow up tech work from our subcontractors. These names are emailed to me in lists, which I have been printing off and using a regular land line based phone to make calls when I work from home.

What Im trying to do is have everything computer based so I can remove the paper waste that I currently have, simplify the calling process to a few clicks, and streamline everything to make everything quicker.

The requirements I need are:

  1. Long distance calls need to look local (ie. If I call from NC to Orchard Park, it needs to come up as a 716-662 number to make it look local)

  2. Call record-ability. Every phone call needs to be able to be recorded to an external HD.

When It comes to all of this stuff, Im extremely out of my element but I figure someone here might be able to help me. Ive been looking at 2 products today,

CounterPath X-Lite

This doesnt appear to offer either of the two requirements that I have.

3CX phone systems

This seems to offer the record ability but not the local looking long distance calling.

Help PLEASE!

If you have a VoIP provider, 3CX softphone is my favorite. I deploy it a lot with people and also install their PBX equipment onsites so its a huge plus. You will need to talk to your voip provider if they allow you to change your caller id. with the people using it for phishing attempts now, you usually need to sign something saying you will not use it illegally if they even allow it. some providers do not allow it at all.

Another option is purchase SkypeOut. They allow you to change your caller ID and you can use the click to call functions. The caller ID will be the same for everything so you may need to change it each call if you have issues with showing a 716 number to certain people…

Also has the built in ability to record calls. Since you have a PC making the calls, you really can get anything you want to record the audio and microphone as since recording isn’t usually built into many softphone programs.

Are you trying to do this for free?

If not, there are about 11ty providers that do this.
