my mom got rid of her b5.5 passat 1.8t the other month for a new civic ex…the passat had 77k miles and needed about 5k worth of work…f that. hopefully there wont be anymore vw’s in my family again…

In the long run, the diesel will be easier/cheaper overall. Even up front you’ll save a few bucks. Picture how the Prius is about $6k more than the Corolla. If you got a Jetta TDI (new) as opposed to a Jetta 2.0T, the cost different will be minimal compared to the $6k. You may pay $.50 more a gallon, but you won’t have to pay the disposal fee of the Prius battery when it shits the bed in 5-7 years.
and you can easily get 60-70 mpg with a tdi… .50 cents to go an extra 20-30 miles, im game. The tdi is going to be alot more reliable in the long run and last many more miles.
my dad’s toyota uses 87, gets like 42mpg, seats 4-5 and has a usable trunk, and not just one cupholder. its actually got a LOT of cupholders.
i never said to get the prius though. im for getting older cars that get the same mileage or better than the newer hybrids…
