solid state = flash drive? more or less

Pretty much, non-volatile memory. And SATA interfaces.

Thats good for basic storage but flash devices still are not practical for high read/write cycles like that of a operating system hard drive.
If they can create a flash device that does not physically degrade with use then that will be a milestone.

oh but the access times are insane

Apple has been looking into converting all it’s iPods to solid state memory. I’ve heard rumors of a 120GB flash drive iPod.

toshiba was making more money on the hdds so apple decided to start implementing flash technology.

these drives are the future. i just hope they last long… once these die, they are dead.
