Very good read, lots of info there. Sucks I can only imagine how much he had to lose… bet it all on black haha.
new motto for casino
“seneca niagara will blowww you away! fun times!”
so i guess because one person kills themselves at the casino, because of a gambling addiction, when he did nothing to help himself, and none of his family or friends did anything either, and this is the first news of something like this happening in YEARS…
THAT is a valid reason to NOT build a casino in DT? are you nuts? it’s idiot logic like this which holds back economic advancement. you have to start somewhere.
as a side note, they probably didnt close the casino. they make like 50 million dollars a day. would you close?

10:30AM? Probably some local with a gambling addiction that lost his life savings. Reason #12412234908523 why a downtown Casino when there’s no real tourism downtown is a bad idea.

I think a couple years back a lawyer walked into the Niagara River because he lost everything.
Anyway,I hope he ate at the buffet for his last meal (if he’s dead).

If you think building a Casino (or even better, an indian casino) has anything to do with Economic Advancement, you have your head up your ass. Drive up to Niagara Falls NY and see how much economic advancement has occurred around the Casino…
well i agree with badazzss, look at all the jobs it creates… you cant say that doesnt help people in the area
EDIT: and also for people thinkin about metal detectors at casinos… imagine all the CHANGE that has to be put in those little dishes, it would get out of hand, id shoot myself if i had to wait in line for old ladies playin slots…oh :shoot:
I wonder how chaotic it was in the casino?.. I would have been grabbing yellow chips and running!
Im actually surprised suicides due to gambling loss doesnt occur more often… esp with the Falls a few blocks away. There have been times where I would go on 72hour gambling binges… but i never thought of killing myself, the dealer maybe… myself no.
So did the guy die??
so i kinda heard the same thing no page 1, that he was arguiing with a gf or ex gf, and went to the bar in the casino and did it

It doesn’t help people in the area.
Those minimum wage jobs are funded by local money. I.E. money that’s already here. Hence: No economic advancement. Also as dozr mentioned, there is no evidence that it helps the area. If it created all these local jobs, wouldn’t the area around the Seneca Niagara be less of a shithole now than before the casino opened?
It’s a nice idea, but the theory is flawed and the evidence is lacking so there’s really nothing but blind faith to support the idea. :gotme:
IMO anyways. I can only think of 2 ways that the Casino would be a good idea:
-
Belief that it would in fact bring in outside tourism, thus bringing in more money. (I don’t believe this will happen. Why would anyone go to a Casino in a rundown city rather than 1 20 minutes away at 1 of the 7 wonders of the world, either the domestic one or 2 minutes over the border at an established tourism area?)
-
Belief that it could do some good within the Buffalo economy by evenly redistributing what money is already here. Essentially taking money from the rich and putting it in the hands of the poorer workers there. Maybe this happens. I don’t know. But again, there’s no evidence that this is going on to any worthwhile extent in the falls. I’d be more inclined to believe that it actually does just the opposite, taking money from the poor who are too stupid to not gamble with it and putting it in the hands of the rich casino owners.
:gotme:
a person is unemployed, they then get a job at casino, and are able to pay for food and shelter, how does that not help the person? im not saying new jobs help the “area” … just good for some people that could use a job and potentially turn their life around
Yeah, I suppose. I guess I’m just thinking on a broader scale.
Any idea how many jobs the casino would create and/or what the average pay is?
I agree and think a casino would be a great addition to Buffalo. Casino’s no matter where the location will attract ppl. Look at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun… they are pretty much in the middle of nowhere and are both very successfull.
A casino would also attract other businesses, retailers, etc. Dont build Bass Pro… build a Casino!!
If you build it, I will COME!!
