someone to pull some fence posts

i am having a new fence installed. the panels are down and i have about 6 or 7 posts already out (of like 18). but i am having a lot of trouble getting the rest. anyone have some kind of puller or a way to get them out? i used a car jack but had mixed results haha. might be easy if you know what you are doing. wood stockade fence, looks like they are about 2’ down.

i need to do it with little damage to my yard, so i dont want to dig them up too much. let me know if you are interested. depending on how long it takes, i can pay like $25 or so. might be an easy way to make a few bucks.

Do I get a finders fee?

i was thinking about that but he said he had a bum hand. didnt think that would be good for pulling posts haha.

Give me a pm

Cherry picker!

$25 to pull 12 posts? I know the economy sucks but damn, I don’t know if illegals even work that cheap.

Just build a quick fulcrum. Take 2 pieces of 2x4 about a foot long and screw them together so they look like a step. Attach this step to the side of your fence post near the bottom so you have a gap the width of a 2x4 near the bottom of your post. Take a long 2x4 and insert it into this gap and stack some wood under it to build a giant lever. You’ll get so much lifting force off this if they are cemented in they’ll most likely just break the post off at the cement line. Then just unscrew your bracket from the post and repeat.

  • Disclaimer: Don’t do this if they’re cemented in and you plan on putting the new posts in the same place. If that’s the case you really need to dig them out. It’s much easier getting that cement ball out with a post attached to it than after you’ve gone and snapped the post off.

i would assume they put the post down and concrete the 4x4 post right into the concrete no metal post.

Easiest way. chainsaw…cut them at the base and put new post in between both cut post lol.

edit: That is a $25 job. but if someone gotta dig and pull each post its more like a $75 job lol

I couldn’t follow your description, but after a quick google search: http://www.5min.com/Video/How-to-Remove-Fence-Posts-from-the-Ground-242419616

^ Yep, that’s how it’s done. I should have searched instead of typing.

I seriously read it like 8 times lol

“Here’s a brand new post we buried 5 minutes ago. We’ll use this fulcrum to get it out. I don’t think it’s cemented in since I just buried it, and it’s not even close to rotting since we just bought it today at the Depot. Just put this board under here and push down… uhhhhh… there you go, it’s out!”

Reminds me of those shows where they dig holes for plants in nice sandy soil. We try that up this way and you hit a rock within 2 inches of digging that spans about a foot beyond where you actually want to dig.

With that being said, I’ll be using that method when I remove my mailbox post that some idiot (me) installed with too much concrete. I’ll post pictures if I hit myself with the 2x4. :smash2:

you’re better off just cutting them with a sawzall and pounding them into the ground lol

or what jayS said… it will still be hard though

i will do that if i have to. i dont want it to be too much of a hack job. i basically did what the guy did in the video, but lets be honest, it is like 1000x harder with 3’ of concrete on 30 year old posts. i had one that wasnt in concrete and i just pulled it out by hand. Anonymity came over for a few min today and we got 3 of them out. some i will just cut cuz they arent coming out. but hes gonna swing over tomorrow and well finish it.

JayS’s method works well, I’ve used it before.

  1. screw the shoe on very well
  2. plan on offseting your new footers by a few feet
  3. if the people that planted your posts were like the previous owners at my house, the 240# of concrete aint coming out, but the posts will.

good to hear, like you said if i didnt have a bum hand i would of helped lol

wrap a chain to them very nice . and strap it 2 a truck and rip the damn things out lol

Easier said then done…lol if it has a firm footer sawzall and offset the new post

If it’s concreted the right way in there… Sawzall and offset.

I feel sorry for anyone who buys my house and wants to get rid of the fence… each post is 2-5 50# bags of cement in a reverse-tapered hole… Getting those things out would require some serious equipment.

overkill much?

Do things right the first time so you don’t have to waste time and $$ doing it all over again.

Overkill maybe… but the fence isn’t going anywhere!

And… the ones that got the 4-5 bags were due to having to make the hole large due to rocks and other crap the Post-Hole Auger dug up. Most have 2-3 50# bags.
