speedometer lights when out!

hello,

i have a 98 altima- and one day the illuminating lights for the speedometer went out… so on the highway with no street lights, i can’t see anything (speed, fuel, etc) on the dash… The turn signal/hibeam/engine warning signals all still work though.

i think even the heating/cooling control back lights are gone (or am i imagining things and they never had lights?)

anyhow, i checked the fuse- and it doesn’t seem to be the problem- so would a bulb have gone out?

is it as simple as unscrewing the speedometer dash insert and changing a bulb?

thanks in advance!

dashes are usually pretty simple.
maybe before you go ripping stuff apart check to see if u have power going to the fuse, maybe a wire has gone bad and gave out on you.

good luck

great suggestion!

thanks for the tip.

did you solve the problem?
haha its funny…b.c this happened to me once in my 98 altima…haha but i quickly realized that i just hit the dimmer switch to off haha…but I was confused at first too.

No, I didn’t solve the problem. in fact, it’s bigger than I thought.

I didn’t realize the running night-time front side lights & tail lights do not work until recently…

the headlights turn on, but nothing else…

so, I’m planning to take it into an electrical repair shop…

any shop suggestions?

someone recommended Cooper Bros. auto electric…

thanks in advance!

problem solved- albeit i am kicking myself for my stupidity…

when i checked the fuses- i only checked the interior fuse panel under the dashboard…

i forgot/didn’t recall there being a fuse box next to the battery in the engine compartment, where the blown fuse was found!

so, the people at cooper bros. found this out for me- and luckily only charged a 1/2 hour of labour & a dollar and change for the fuse to fix…

so, lesson learned the hard way!

Glad to see they didn’t rip you off. Alot of ppl might not had said anything.
