Ford may be planning to add a new coupe to the Focus lineup when the redesigned model arrives for 2008.
Looking for all the world like a resurrected Escort ZX2, the new Focus two-door promises to add some life to the current models’ familiar lineup.
Prior prototypes for the next Focus were simply rough mules with a Fusion-style nose tacked onto an existing Focus body, but these latest prototypes are now fully complete. Both the new coupe and sedan (also captured here) get some interesting detailing to the side panels, with a bold character line that sweeps up from the front wheel well to the cars’ beltlines, and on to the rear deck. Another chiseled line runs along their lower midsections, adding some more surface development. The character lines on the coupe and sedan are surprisingly similar, and both appear to have similar takes on Ford’s new three-bar grille treatment.
This is the first appearance of full, production-spec prototypes for the next-gen Focus, and any hatchback variants have yet to make an appearance. They’re probably out there somewhere, but we have no firsthand confirmation of them right now. With the surprise addition of a coupe version, Ford is obviously taking a fresh look at how they package and equip the next Focus, so we’ll just have to keep searching to see the true future for Ford’s bread-and-butter entry-level car.
my lease is up in 08, if they bring back the svt I will consider it because of our discount and it being a brand new car. if not, I will be going to look at sti’s and mustangs
^ me too, the american focus has just gotten worse and worse since the first gen IMO, i love mine and hate the new ones, and those concepts are even more hideous. the new ones front ends are STARTING to grow on me, but the interior is so BLAH and plain in comparison to mine, i dont know why they changed it :gotme:
