Im in the middle of a deal from a friend of mine. He has an SR20DET hes gonna sell to me for 1500.00cdn. Im worried as its been sitting for 2 years. I pulled the drain plau, and the oil looks like brand new synthetic, little dirt, no coolant nor metal filings.
Engine comes complete with uncut harness, axles, tranny etc.
Worth it?
Anything else i should look for?

someone will jump on this. Its been sitting? on a shop floor? did you replace the oil?
Complete, complete, complete… is it? Does it have all the accessories? CAS? Igniter? ECU? Is the Turbo in good shape? Not seized? Acceptable ammount of play? Other things like engine mounts, tranny mount, hoses, slave cyl. can all cost significant money so if they are there it’s a bonus…
So what kind of shape is it in? Can’t tell much from looking at it other than it “looks” good or it looks “rough”… Do a compresison and leak down test. If the results from those are good then you pretty much know it will be a decent motor…

y would he be including axles? is this FWD? make sure u check that turbo for leaking oil and shaft play also pull that valve cover off look for wear and gungeyness (no sure if thats a word) good luck

Reminds me of the old honda days, when all the ricers on the auto forums wanted their axles swapped cuz they just spend 4 large on a JDM engine and couldn’t drop it. lol
$1500 sounds like a good price for a FWD engine set. If you have a 240sx, don’t buy it. If you have an altima, pulsar, g20, sentra, then you should consider, because these engines are whicked quick for those light cars.
