Hey all … Ive been quite active this spring with the Nissan Enthusiast’s Car Club and Ive had the pleasure of looking really close with StybZ’s 350Z with a stage 3 Stillen Supercharger. His 350z is an auto … like my 06 max. Walking back and forth between our cars and even looking at the ECM harness, fuse box, and vacuum set ups … they are identical. The Stillen 350Z stage 1 kit is a piggy back type ECM control, has a 7th injector mounted in the intake for additional fuel. Further investigation revealed we even use the same injectors on the VQ. I think this is doable but Ive not been able to find a single hint of someone even posting an inquiry if this is even doable in the forums. I even googling this idea. Im ready for the next step and its a $4100, practically a bolt on mod with no tuning needed (the piggy back module pre programmed) What you guys know about this? … the biggest thing I will need to do as far as my investigation has gone is a bulge I will need grafted into my hood … My main concern is the difference in the DE and the HR. From what I could find the engines basically have different cams and Im hoping the Stillen control module doesnt care about cam duration or timing and is able to compensate
I’d also check the FSM’s ( factory service manual ) to see if the pinouts are the same on both ECU’s. If they are, then go for it! Boosting an N/A engine isn’t really that difficult, just make sure your fuel delivery system is up to the increased demand. A larger fuel pump like a Walbro 255lph should be adequate along with a good fuel regulator. All you want is to make sure your pistons aren’t going to melt with the increase in heat generated by boosting. I’m sure there’s lots of people willing to give you a hand (myself included) with your planned build. Keep us posted:)
I looked into this a while back for my Alty, Stillen said it wouldn’t work, something about the EGR…said they were working on it but nothing yet. If they have fixed it I would be seriously thinking about it. One guy in Quebec did a shaft driven roots type supercharger on his VQ Altima, and there is a shaft driven cerntrifugal kit out of Taiwan, butthey won’t ship it here.
We can modify the EGR to work can’t we? And you could always go with a full piggy back like an AFC. It’s not hard to stop the tune drift so once it’s tuned you could just leave it. Let us know what stillen says. Oh and if you need a 255 fuel pump let me know. I have one lying around
I have the day off tomorrow so Im going to give Stillen a call see what they say. Good to know Colin, I’ll try to even get a specific problem if I cant use their kit and post up the issue.
I’ll even research some Alti setups
There were 3 types of different engines in the 350Z a DE, De rev up and the HR. The HR is a totally different animal it has twin throttle bodies and intakes nothing HR will work for you. The rev up engine has the variable cam timing on intake and exhaust the DE only has it on the Intake it is easy to spot by the timing cover on the DE I will attach pictures as its hard to explain. So I don’t know squat about which engine was used in the MAX but my wifes 2005 Altima SE-R has a regular DE the problem lies in the fact that your engine is transverse mounted and the 350Z is longitudely mounted(I know I can’t spell) so there will be a motor mount on the right side of your engine (where the crank pulley is) right in the spot the blower drive belt will run down to the crank pulley on a 350Z(the front of the engine). So I guess if you could build a pulley system to rout the belt around your motor mount it might work.
VQ35 REV-UP notice the two bumps on the timing cover where the cams are.
My non rev up just the one bump over the cams on the timing cover (the same as my wifes SE-R)
yep … its looking official that Stillen isnt going to work without some rethinking, Thanks alot for some enlightenment. I had called stillen yesterday but I only got sales and tech support would call me back.
Sorry to crush your dreams  I dont really think there is an easy FI solution for Transverse engines yet. I was looking into FI on my wifes car before I got the G. The only thing at that time was Speed Force Racing had a turbo kit but they have been having trouble with there web site and it down right now. Colin looked into the SFR turbo kit as well I am not sure what he found out though.
His name is Stephane. Hes from Quebec and did a custom fab supercharger mount in his altima. Its fast too 12.8@ 109. He may be able to give you some insight into how to go about it.
