It is a tradition for my friends and I to run the first stage of STPR the night before. Now traditionally it was the water crossing stage, this year there is no water crossing. So it is better, there should be no one out on the roads.
Here’s my idea: for both Thursday night and Friday night
We have a meet in town somewhere like Dunkin Dounuts and then transit to the start of what was the water crossing stage.
Have someone start everyone who is there a minute apart and then they wait a minute and goes last.
The people who want to go fast go first and those who just wanna take it easy are in the back. We have done this before and it works out well.
At the end of the stage is the famous water crossing, if you take it easy just about any car can make it through the creek.
I go pretty fast through it and have never had a problem, even in the Civic.
On the other side of the creek there is a small parking area where we usually hang out and make up stories and tell lies about all the crazy things we have done at past STPR’s.
The state has a law that there is no Alcohol allowed in the forest. What you have in your cooler is up to you. We have in the past had some pops at the water crossing. No one comes down there, and seeings how this year there is no water crossing, I’m sure all will be fine.
As the event gets closer and we see who might be in, we can pick a spot and time to meet up.
I am in no way saying that when we “go fast”, we are balls out with disregard to locals and the like.
I go about winter rally “A” speed as a idea on how fast I mean.
The road is NOT closed, there MAY be locals driving on them.
We have used the Water crossing stage in the past because there are no houses on the whole stage.
There is one cabin half way in that is used as a hunting cabin, so is never in use.
We have used the 1 minute starting interval so we are not up each others asses and can drive at the rate that is comfortable for that person.
If all you have is summer tires on your car or you just want to drive down an actual rally stage and go slow, that’s cool for you.
Anyone is welcome, this is for fun and to get together as a group. Not as a race to see who gets to the water first.
I hope everyone who will be there Thursday evening and Friday night will join us on one or both of the runs down the stage.
Only 9 days till STPR. I’m getting excited.
Anyone else going to be in for the meet and stage run.
Here is what I am going with as far as a schedule.
I figure there are many people coming on different days, so to accommodate everyone
I am going to run the stage Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Each day we will meet at the Dunkin’ Dounuts at 7 Main St.
Thursday June 5th - 6:00pm meet, with us leaving no later than 6:30pm
Friday June 6th - 10:00am meet, with us leaving no later than 10:30am
Saturday June 7th - 11:00pm meet, with us leaving around 11:30pm.
Then Back to town to the Gaslight for cocktails:beer:
STPR is a good time im a little sad I can’t make it this year. I have been down the first stage, it’s a car wrecker…I would honestly say this is a bad idea especially with other people and non prepped cars. However, good luck to you. Watch the baby heads. They will kill your oil pan.
The Watercrossing Stage has to be one of the smothest roads I’ve ever been on.
I don’t know which road you are talking about but it’s not the one we will be running.
This is an in car video of the stage.
