subaru might have out done toyota on this one

Subaru just unveiled a sample of it’s version of the platform shared with Toyota for the 86, looks like they’ll be badging it an sti which would make it the first sti coupe offered in the us as well as the first rwd sti.

Can someone post the pic. It’s a pain in the ass to do his on my phone. (Done!)

IDK about out doing toyota just yet. They have a scion coming on the same platform that looks pretty damn badass. I have seen some of the concept art for it and damn thing looks wise can compete with most high end super cars

another example of toyota going after sales rather than producing something exciting. they’ll make a gutless version and sell it for cheap rather than make something exciting in low volume for the performance enthusiasts.

we’ll see what ends up in showrooms, my hopes are not high

Hasn’t this been in the making for like 5+ years now. Holy shit, take longer. Prolly going to end up with a shitty version anyways.

Seems real similar to the pontiac solstice actually, real interesting car that they prototyped real quick but took way too many years to produce which in turn give them some sales issues. Hopefully this car will be good enough to over come that.

The solstice and the Matrix already carry a version of the R154 that is so Toyota popular so it possibly sharing some soltice stuff would make sense

They will both be offered with N/A boxer motors IIRC to begin with. They would haul ass if they had the WRX motor in them and with the STI motor would be just plain badass.

The BR-Z will most likely out of my price range.

If the base 200bhp FR-S/FT86 can tow 1500lbs and is around 22k, I might consider it.

from what i have read, this motor is set up different to sit further and lower back since they are both (suby and toyota) rwd, so having the wrx/sti motor would mess up the handling/weight distribution since its set up as an awd motor.

yup blue with large wing and 1,000,000 spoke wheels, yup sti

Of course its set back further there isnt front driveshaft angles to contend with. Subaru drivetrains do resemble RWD setups because they arent mounted transversely. If you removed the front driveshafts from any current subaru model they would look very similar to the setup on these new cars. I think the power of an Ej257 would more than make up for the weight added and if they had to move the motor around a bit which I doubt they would it would negate the minute handling difference.

I’ll take a new WRX instead, thank ya.
