T25 turbo EG build thread (many pix)

Hello everyone, i’ve finally decided to make a build thread for my EG hatch. Now i know this is a 240 forum, but i KNOW some of you here own civics too, and if you don’t hopefully you’ll find this thread somewhat entertaining anyway. I’m boosting a SOHC D16Z6 with a T25 off a SR20, that’s about as 240 as this build is gonna get.
I also started painting my car literally after years of prep work and pure lazyness, so ill post some pics of the new paint too.

I bought this car soon after i sold my S14 (which weirdly enough was the one Chadwick’s friend crashed), and regretted it right away, but as time passed i kinda got used to it. It’s a 93 si, had 289xxx km’s on it when i bought it in October 2008. It was bone stock.

I didn’t do much to it for the first while, except for alpine speakers and deck and replaced basics like: rad, oil pan, fuel filter, rotors, and pads. also got an intake, and some stabilizer bars.

It drove very well through the first winter, and had 0 problems, i was happy about that but the car was boring as shit. I tried selling it and buying another S14 many times, but after buying this car i started spending a lot of money on audio equipment like studio monitors, guitar amps, etc. So i was really broke with a really shitty part time job and never ended up getting another 240.

So i decided to keep the car, but before i did that i had to do 2 things: dumping it, and changing the color because i HATE teal. I found a set of koni red’s with skunk 2 springs (also came with gold control arms) and decided to paint the car myself because i couldn’t dish out a couple of grand on a paint job.

One thing lead to another… and by the time the next winter came along, i had rollered the car with grey primer and installed the new suspension with new bushings. This is what happened:

I rolled it because it took 100% less effort and time than doing it properly, and at the beginning i didn’t mind it too much because i had never seen a “flat white” car before, it looked okay i guess, just very ghetto). I also cut the hood up where the intake was for ~100 more HP.

I drove it like that for the winter until i decided that it was way too ghetto and i didn’t like it anymore. At that time my friend sold his 96 jetta, so he gave me his “superior” 5 star rims. 15x6.5 with really bad 205/50/15 mis-matched tires on them. I started sanding the rollered primer off, and start working on a proper paint job. I replaced rusted parts like both front fenders, hatch, and later hood. ALSO, i decided to paint the rims and get new tires. Bought a set of DURUN a-one’s from totaljdm for $55 bucks a tire.
This is me sanding down the rims before paint:

I also sprayed the headlights yellow for fun, it was cool for about a week then i got new ones.

finished the rims:

I didn’t spend too much time on them so they are getting dirty pretty fast, and brake dust really gets in there. they look cool if you clean them often, and i definitely think better than the stock silver color.

Over the next couple of months i slowly started getting other random parts. I had my e-test coming up and failed terribly. I knew it was probably my cat, and my header downpipe was partly dis attached so i pieced together an exhaust system: new aftermarket header downpipe, oem cat, ebay 2.25" piping, magnaflow muffler. I also added 6000k hids with new headlights, ITR rear seats, JDM dual piston front calipers with new pads and rotors, those white LED lights for your gauges, SI lip and some oem mud flaps.

these are the calipers:

they’re alright, but i think i should upgrade my master cylinder to a 15/16ths one and SS lines for better breakage because the peal is still a little soft after bleeding/flushing the whole system.

Then i removed my power steering to make room for the turbo setup, and also get a better feel for the road. the wheel always felt way too lubed.
After power steering remove:

All the parts including the fluid weighed ~25 lbs!

Steering feels pretty good, and more responsive. I like it.

A couple of weeks ago i finally decided to start painting the car again. I wet sanded it down with 150 grit paper on a electric hand sander, used tremclad primer, tremclad glossy white rust paint, and tremclad clear coat. I let it dry and buffed it with turtlewax rubbing compound to get rid of the sharp edges on the clear coat.

The result was actually pretty nice. My goal when painting the car was to do something inexpensive, so that if i scratched my car or damaged it i wouldn’t feel bad. $2000 paint jobs are cool and all, but then you have to constantly be careful of keeping it in good condition, and that’s just not something i want to worry about. Here are some pics of the painting i got done so far: Fenders and front bumper.

I’ll be continuing the rest of the car as soon as i can, it’s just hard to commit to something so big when you have to still drive your car daily, i i’m just looking for a couple of days when i can put my car aside and let the paint dry nicely.

TURBO SETUP
For the last couple of weeks i’ve been piecing together a kit for the Z6. Everyone usually says uuuhh why don’t you just put a B16 or B18 in it like everyone else?!
#1 With the amount of money you spend on a full B16 swap for example, you can get all the D series turbo parts and still have some left over to put towards a good tune. And not only that but why do all that just to end up with ~140 hp when you can spend less and boost a D series to ~200.

Anyway, my goal was to have a daily driven car with ~200 or less. If you want big power, then i agree, B series is the way to go, but for what i’m trying to do it’s just overkill.

I still need to get a lot more parts like an adapter plate for the turbo/manifold, oil/water lines, walbro 255, and others… I also recently did a compression test on my engine, and got some pretty bad numbers:
130-130-160-140. So i’m planning on buying another Z6 with good compression, keep it in my garage for the winter and slap the kit on that. If you’re going with stock internals, the engine can hold up to about 200 HP if its healthy, so for now im not too worried about changing pistons, valves, rods, etc…

That’s about all i have for now, i will update as more happens.

did you compression test it on a warm or cold engine? looks like an interesting build for someone on a budget.

lots of hard work here already! i like the DIY turbo plan!! you could get an ebay intercooler and universal piping kit for cheeapp

what is an HF manifold? what is it flanged for?

the hf manifold comes stock on 88-91 crx hf, 88-91 civic std, and 92-95 civic cx/vx hatch. they’re different from other old civic manifolds because they have the cat right under it instead of the header downpipe. so you take the cat off and use it as a turbo manifold.

i don’t think i had been driving the car all day when i did compression, it was only maybe 5 mins to a shop. it may have been a little cold, but the engine currently has 325xxx kms, so i’m not really surprised.

the ic piping will be a little weird because the inlet/outlet are at the top, but the ic fits right where the AC would go and with a bunch of pipes it shouldn’t be a big deal.
the car’s been through some degree of rice i think with the messed up colors and such, but here’s my long-term goal:

sprint hart wheels are siiiiq…rota makes knockoffs called track r

you should buy my rota slipstreams, 4x100 16x7, they need to be painted. cheap!

this thing got sold, cool while it laster though
