I <3 black cars. I do plan on having this bad boy detailed when the weather permits.
As for mods, the only things I plan on doing are the washer mod, i/c pump mod, and maybe replacing the mufflers with something more sporty.
As far as issues I don’t really have any yet. Once in a while I get an air matic warning which is most likely a $20 sensor and I get a whine upon cold start up for about 10 seconds which from what I’m told is the smog pump.
If I have to replace anything i’m not all that worried. The beauty behind the e55 is the amount of parts it shares with it’s more common brethren. Anything thats unique is bomb proof stock. I am looking into grabbing a knock off star diagnostics tool or carsoft tool so that I can play around with setting and fix my own stuff.
Apparently the knock off star tool ($1000, includes laptop, multiplex + 7 mercedes specific cables) includes wiring diagrams, parts suggestions, step by step replacement guides, and a dev mode on a specific cracked hard drive.
The downside is that I hear the tool is very fragile to drops. Also, some of the kits include a hard drive with viruses on it. But the one I’m looking at is imported by an english guy who installs everything onto a dell laptop and it’s pretty much plug and play.
The carsoft tool is much cheaper however isn’t as functional.
Decisions decisions.
This kid looks like he can fix about anything so I am curious to whether or not most of the cost of repair is labor, cause if it is then a warranty really isnt worth it. They probably charge over $100/hr so if you make more than that then yes just get the warranty.
I’m definitely no professional and I do not know it all. But given this is the internet age and I have a good amount of friends who do know a lot, I am not afraid to try anything.
Parts themself are pretty expensive but not outrageous. I can get a brand new OEM alternator for $300. Probably a pretty simple install bu the dealership would probably charge you over $600 for the whole thing installed.
The Diagnostics are probably the most complex thing about these cars. The system is very advanced but with the right tools it makes life a breeze because the ecu will pretty much tell you anything thats wrong with it and suggest part numbers that are the likely culprits.

black cars suck. my m5 looks like poop 90% of the time. i can wash it then the next day it looks like poop. white is right and silver is ok. car looks great, hope nothing goes wrong with it. it is after all a mercedes.

Nice. Should run me in my V while you’re stock, I’d imagine that’s gotta be a close race. It’s funny, you wanted black on black and I gave up on AMG’s partially because I hate black and silver and every single one I found was black or silver.

ive had zero problems with mine and ive driven to boston and back twice since september. granted it is a 05 thing still drives like a charm. Geat pick up
