The 15th DD thread on this page.

Well I finally got around to taking some shitty pictures of the car I picked up last month. It kind of worked out a bit better because I have some serious seat time in this bad boy so I can throw a few honest opinions in about it.

Well, without further adieu here is my 2003 E55 AMG.

I picked it up for a pretty good deal (at least I thought) from chicago. The car is extremely clean although it may not look it in the pictures. There is really no corrosion, dents, chips, or scratches anywhere on the exterior of the car. The interior is in pretty good shape too, one of the reasons I picked this car was because the leather was the least beat up of all the cars I looked at.

It’s also the sexy black on black combo I was looking for. It’s actually pretty hard to find a black on black car because a majority of the black sedans came with the bright wood finish (Which blows cock IMO) and maroon colored inserts on the seats and door panels.

As far as options, it’s bare basic. Just how I wanted it. Panoramic roof can suck my nut and I can almost bet the 2003 navigation is that disc crap which we all know is garbage compared to a garmin or something similar. The car still has a ton of options, it’s a benz!

I have to say, the car is excellent to drive. There are so many things I like about it I don’t even know were to start. My hands down favorite feature of the car are the massive 15" rotor/8 piston caliper brakes. They are incredible and the car has enough braking power to rip your face off. The seats are probably the most comfortable thing in the world too. After my 8 hour straight drive back from Chicago my back didn’t mind one bit. In fact my room-mate was too comfortable and fell asleep for a few hours with no complaints. The car drives amazing in the snow and I’m still on summer tires. The only issue is getting going.

Obviously this goes without saying, the power in this car is incredible. It’s a different kind of power than you would expect. The car moves very well around town but on the highway the 469 horse really come out to play and it just keeeeeeeeeeps pulling. Very cool feeling the 60-130 is faster than 0-60 on most cars.

The pictures don’t do the car justice. It attention to detail is unreal and as you get closer you realize what a piece of art the AMG is. Down to the AMG logo on the tail pipes and all the subtle chrome accents.

However there are some downsides to the car I dislike. I hate how over engineered the car is. The air suspension is blessing and a curse. When one strut blows out the hole car is slammed to the ground and that makes it pretty undrivable. They don’t even include a dipstick because thats a dealer specialty tool. What a joke. Another issue I have with the car is that I’m 19 years old. I catch a lot of questions such as “Did mommy and daddy buy that for you?” and other stupid questions. My least favorite thing about the car is that I need to go a lot of places that the Benz just can’t go to. I’m not about to show up on the job site with a Mercedes in the apple walk projects in NF.

Overall though, amazing daily. Loves to do burn outs at 40mph roll

Nice ride.
Any warranty or did the purchase include lube?

“Did mommy and daddy buy that for you?” and other stupid questions

What do your payments look like?

No warranty and no lube. Honestly I looked into an aftermarket one but they are not worth it. The only things that go wrong on e55 amg’s are the air ride suspension and misc BS. Everything that is expensive should be pretty bullet proof after all the research I’ve done. Besides, I’m a pretty handy guy and I do own other cars so I can afford down time If I do need to fix something.

No payments I paid for it in full.

New NYSpeed membership requirement: must DD a Benz.

Seriously though, that’s a great ride. Cushy + powerful = great DD.

Congrats… try and get a warranty if youre smart… how many miles?

Nice car

Hope nothing breaks

Lol@all the warranty and not breaking things.

Hey, maybe I’ll eat my words but I’m not about to pay $4000 for an after market warranty that will only cover me for a year or two.

Hell, I won’t even have the car that long.

lol. I swear nyspeed gets like a car every few years that everyone swarms towards buying.

Definitely a sweet car though. The headlight design just draws me away from it personally.

Lol, so many Mercedes.

Nice pick up.

I’ve owned this car for over a month lol. I’m just posting up during the swarm!

Maybe its because your 19, but you are a fool if you dont buy a warranty and think only the suspension gives you problems.

My warranty has paid itself 6 times over at this point. If you like to gamble, sure, you’ll be fine. But the warranty usually pays for itself as soon as one thing goes wrong.

But on the bright side, you can buy my drag radials:tup:

What kind of problems have you had.

Having a warranty that covers electrical is usually key from what I see and hear.

supercharger clutch - $$$
alternator - $$$
SBC system - $$$$$
thermostat - $
climate control axial blower - $$

Granted, mine came with the Max Care Chrysler warranty, but its the best investment you can make. Especially if you start modding, because most people do pulley, tunes, headers, etc. and when shit breaks, warranty still covers it.

E55 AMG is the new E30.

Did you replace your supercharger clutch because it was chirping?

I’ve read it’s just a necessary evil of owning a used e55. It always comes back.

Man since when did NYBimmerSpeed.com become NYBenzSpeed.com? Nice purchase btw  love the black color.

I fried the alternator doing a harry burnout at the track. While it was at Benz, I mentioned the chirp. They replaced it to the tune of 1100 bones. Hasn’t come back (yet)

that trip would have cost ~3k, and all I paid was $100. Nuff said

If his car has over 55k miles he will probably have trouble getting a decent warranty anyway. I just made the cut off for a full bumper-bumper warranty on mine. The next available coverage plan would not have been worth the money as it did not cover a lot of what Scott just posted and then some. Roll the dice and save your pennies

Nice looking car by the way. Black/black is the way to go. I picked mine up in November, it’s an '04 with keyless go, pano roof, Command Nav and a few other attractive options.
