THE **iPhone** Thread (GPS, JailBreak, Apps, Etc)

Ya. Install SwirlyMMS and use: mmsc.cingular.com for the MMSC setting and wireless.cingular.com:80 for the proxy.

Next, call 888-892-9760. Its a higher tier rep that can usually help better. You might need an excuse but I told them I use my SIM card in a old Cingular phone and want to be able to send pictures from that phone when they asked. They might not even care.

What they need to do is they need to re-enable WAP push. There is two places in their Snooper software they need to make this change.

Second, have them switch your messaging plan to a non-iphone plan. Same price, just different features to their system.

After this, you need to have them resend the over the air activation and reset your vlr’s.

After they are done, reset your phone and you should be set. You might need to wait a few minutes but after that it should be working.

what about the APN and user name and password? do i need to make them? Damn i was hoping this would be easier. lol damn im tired though.

can this be put on unlocked/jb phones?

yeah. pretty sad that you have to go though all of that BS to get basic cell phone features

Ya this is only available to jailbroken iPhones.

You can leave it blank.

ok so i have a couple questions since i think i am going to get a 2g one and unlock it,

never had an unlocked phone before and how does it work with your current plan? such as surfing the internet and stuff? have tmobile now

can you get email alerts? i use that a lot on my BB

is it a pain to txt with since its touch screen?

it is when you start to text on it but you eventually get used to it and it has like spellcheck programmed in it so it edits your words

If its unlocked, you just pop your SIM card into it and it should work. Make sure you have a data plan or you are going to get a pretty hefty bill. Lots of people get screwed with this little aspect of it.

Ya, you can get email and everything on the phone and sync with it.

Its all user preference. I have big hands and still text ok. The auto correct is pretty good too so if you let it change the words as your type, you can type pretty fast.

sometimes the auto-correct is a pain…like when it tries to continually correct something you don’t want corrected.

ok so what is a difference between the 1g’s and 2g’s just the firmware?

just the GPS and 3G hardware

other than that, they’re pretty much the same thing. If you’re in the market for one and 3g/GPS isn’t a big deal to you, I’d honestly go for the 1st generation phone. They feel like their built better/stronger than the new ones. The call quality, so far, seems superior on the old ones too.

also not a big fan of the plastic, the metal case felt much more durable.

BTW, looks like flash is on it’s way. Still a ways away though (second half of 09?)

so the 2g has GPS…is it turn by turn or just the kind that blackberry has?

yeah, kind of. It has the ability to do turn by turn but don’t think it truely exists yet. I know a few companies (tomtom) were working on GPS apps for the phone but nothing is really out yet.

You can use it to track yourself via google maps, but due to streaming the data, it’s kind of slow. They really need the map data to be stored locally to take more advantage of it.

btw, just to clear it up, the 2g (second generation phone) has this ability, not the 2g (wireless speed) phone

The new one has GPS so it can show you where you are on Google Maps and give you directions but no turn by turn. Its a rumored feature that is in future firmware but I dont see it anytime soon.

im currently on the phone and the lady is going to transfer me again to technical support cus she has no clue what wap push is lol

You might get by if you just ask them to lift the MMS block on your phone.

omg, they r retards good thing ur here, ill tell them this next

Ya. Depending on who you get is the issue.

I did it for my friend when he got his and they just told him he needed to have the MMS block lifted from his account and it was explained that this “block” just prevented messages from going to his phone and instead, to viewmymessage.com and stuff.

When they lifted this, before he even hung up he was able to send me picture messages.

When I called, the guy was cool and helped me but he was telling me all the stuff he had to do about push over the air settings and stuff.

Sorry to burst your bubble too but sometimes ATT makes sweeps of iPhones and disables MMS so you need to go through this again.

ok well the guy said he did it but im resetting my iphone because it didnt work at the moment, he did say he lifted MMS Block and enabled the WAP push in both sections of The snooper so lets hope.
