I ordered two multis. Why?

pmed

I bought 2 5.56’s, not sure if I want to build 2 at some point , or possibly sell one off to a fellow shifter.

Is it essential i remove the barrel to change the dust cover on my AR? The dust cover doesn’t latch or unlatch easily at all and the guy I bought it from is sending me a new cover. Thoughts?

Lower caliber markings don’t matter at all. It’s not a pistol and is not registered anywhere. Most newer lowers are marked “multi” though because some people are OCD and don’t want a 5.56 marked lower shooting other calibers.
I might build a .300 Blackout though. Uses standard AR mags and bolt, just a different barrel.

I got through! Changed the ffl to firefly, just gotta call Bob back.

Nice! I’ve been scowering sites looking for build kits. lol

Bought a lower kit from Palmetto.

Unnecessary to remove barrel.

Yes you do. Unless you have an upper that doesn’t have a forward assist, your upper has worn pin holes, a proprietary barrel nut due to an aftermarket handguard, or a bent pin then you cannot take the pin out without removing the barrel nut(thus the barrel). Any milspec upper the pin will not clear the forward assist when pushing back(after you remove the forward micro circlip) without force that would either scratch the shit out of the upper or bend the hinge pin.

Some billet upper you can get them to clear, especially ones like the vltor modulars. Some barrel nuts will have tapers/shapes/cuts that allow the pin to slip by after the handguard is removed. On a milspec rifle though, the stock M16/M4 type barrel nut won’t let the pin pass by.

it’s all designed that way to capture the pin in the event that the circlip were to pop off and the pin to vibrate loose.

Hey Adam, is there any point to monolithic uppers besides “bling” factor?

If they’re designed and machined correctly then absolutely. The rigidity of the upper can increase in the sectional area around the barrel extension receiver(part where the barrel mates into the upper). You also increase the accuracy of the system setup with iron sights as the arc radius never changes between the front and rear sight. This is because there is zero movement between the upper mounted rear sight and the handguard mounted front sight.

But also, if designed and machined correctly you can shave some weight off the MU vs a standard upper and similar handguard. 99% of aluminum handguards are made from precision extruded aluminum cores(proprietary) then machined on turning centers/mills/EDM’s to achieve the final product. Without needed to bolt/affix the handguard to the barrel nut, the MU can be made lighter as there’s no fasteners, a lighter barrel nut(potential) and lighter material use near where the handguard would normally clamp/bolt to the barrel nut or comparable bracket.

downside…price and lack of “interchanability” of the MU design.

Oh and for what it’s worth, with any luck I will have the very first RF-C carbon handguard prototype made sometime tomorrow for all to see  I will then be accepting orders for the first batch

Found a suitable use for this smiley now :worship

u know i got dibs on one sir!

I dunno what you just said adam, but do you make anything for the scar or benelli? lol

For those that do not yet know(Wayne) I have created a new line of products for the business in the firearms area, starting with a unique ergonomic carbon fiber handguard for the AR platform. I’ve been keeping it very low key until the past couple weeks. A few that have been to the shop recently have seen and handled the prototypes that have been rolling off the machine as of recent and I’m currently here amidst the snow at ~2am working on final mold prep. This hand guard has been dubbed the RF-C, available in both mid length and rifle length variants(12" and 15" respectfully).

These are soon to be on the market, hopefully within the next week. I have a few other parts for the AR platform as well with a lightweight stock and some other misc parts.

I have worked up some parts for the Benelli M4 shotgun that would be compatible with the pump line as well, but have yet to tool the molds for the parts. It’s a very complex multipiece billet mold that uses a special forming process as well and it’s just going to take me time to work the kinks out and get test runs done before I can even begin to say that those parts are ready for sale. The molding process for those parts is not a technique I’ve ever had the chance to use and have to get a baseline on it first.

The scar I had not planned any product for, but that can change pending market demand and some research as to what could be used for that platform. Chris had one for a bit but I never looked into what was available for them, nor what people wanted.

Def want to see this hand guard…

How about you swing by and pick up the muzzle brake that’s been here for you for months now and I’ll show you a rough proto.

Seriously though, that brake. Come get it sir. Unless you are just aiming for me to find a use for it myself  :rofl :ohnoes

Lol, soon I promise.

Other parts that ill be dropping off should be here soon.
