A Greece couple who claim their pit bull terrier was nabbed by police in a case of mistaken identity have been given two weeks to prove police have the wrong dog.
State Supreme Court Justice Thomas Stander on Tuesday granted Christine Coppeta and Mario Cianfichi the time to prove the dog seized earlier this month by Greece police isn’t their dog Zena.
Zena the dog had bitten people and was deemed a “dangerous dog” in Greece Town Court, and under court order was to be removed from Monroe County.
Police believe the dog didn’t go anywhere.
But Coppeta and Cianfichi claim they turned the original Zena over to friends in Florida, then got another similar-looking dog and gave it the same name.
