ok here th story my mom gave her ex boyfriend a dog as longas he taks care of it…but today she found out hes not doin a good job.he obviously beats the dog cause it hides whenever it gets a chance.so tonight she went and jacked the dog back.so after we get home.the pyscho came n stole my moms beloved sophie (her pride n joy)and is holding it collateral until he gets the dog my moms paid for and is trien to get a GOOD home for.

BUTTTTT you have no ground as you guys stole his dog first. So aka you both will be in a pissing fight until you give each others dogs back. Then you can say he takes bad care of the dog and get the dog picked up by whatever department does that, and she can hope for custody of said dog.
Maybe thats all speculation but sounds about right.
Oh yeah, also if she paid for it and has proof, she can go to small claims court (?) and gain custody of the dog I know usually thats what they do when a married couple has a disagreement about an animal, whoever proved receipts of paying for it usually gets said animal.
