The company’s Prius, the top-selling gasoline-electric hybrid, outsold Ford’s Focus to rank eighth in annual volume among cars.
Annnd of course, Camry FTW.
The Toyota Camry was the best-selling car in the U.S. for a sixth straight year.
Oh, and BTW, for the first time in 75 years, Ford is not #2
Toyota Motor Corp. overtook Ford Motor Co. to become the No. 2 automaker by U.S. sales in 2007, using new products and relentless strategy to break Ford’s 75-year lock on the position.
Even better - Toyota is listed as America’s #1 brand in 2007:
Toyota +2.9% at 2,291,648 (2006: 2,220,090)
Chevrolet –6.5% at 2,265,641 (2006: 2,415,428)
Ford –13.9% at 2,101,244 (2006: 2,433,086)
Honda +4.5% at 1,371,438 (2006: 1,308,135)
Dodge –2.1% at 1,058,402 (2006: 1,077,579)
Of course, that sales figure for Toyota includes around 125k Scions…
I hate prius drivers, there little shit boxes always clog up the fast lane. I think I am going to start taking after Mike and take pictures of me flicking them off.
Ford had been #2 since the 1930s.
They are now #3.
Toyota had a shot at taking #1 away from CHEVY, but they didn’t count the Scion branch because they are sold under a seperate nameplate & have their own “branding”.
Toyota counting Scion would be akin to Chevy counting Pontiac.
