The Rapid Move To All Electric (But Real Goal = No Personal Cars)

Not a huge fan of Jalopnik anymore but still an interesting situation with Tesla that I could see other companies doing once they get deeper into the EV industry.

Couple quick things… I’m pretty sure Skyactiv-X isn’t banned, they can’t meet emissions with it and the cost value for the US market isn’t there… They could meet emissions targets but they cost is too high they claimed.

Also, its really easy to make huge power on a low production cars. The Koenigsegg is super sweet, but the technology for mass production high mileage use isn’t there.

It isn’t even about JUST MPG. A 1980s manual honda can get 50mpg, but you have to do it while meeting all the EPA targets. Now add in all the crash safety you have to have, it makes cars very heavy. Its like a 3 dimensional ball, with a million floating targets on the surface of the ball the government makes you hit to sell a car here. So your simple ball now looks like some freak show crazy thing.

I’m really surprised they can sell the car as a 2021.

For gas cars, when you place the engine to the chassis you have to create a vin number and that is the year of the vehicle. As far as I know, the engine/trans has to be of the same ‘model’ year. In some very special cases, there might be some left over parts from the previous year, but I’m pretty sure it has to be under a certain number. Say they over produced 500 2021 engines, they have to document that and then they can be used in the 2022 cars, but they have to meet all 2022 standards.

This would be like buying a new Chevy truck and it comes with a junk yard/old 5.3L in it.

The way you can look at this is that it’s a battery, not the engine or trans. So they probably have their loophole right there.
This should be a new mandate though for any EV cars. Battery should match the chassis year if it’s a new car.

Just Tesla doing more shady bullshit. What a shock.

Need to mass produce that free valve shit.

The rapid move to… Wait… What?

Car culture the latest victim of cancel culture…lol

I feel like this is going to be like a Minority report and how the cars are on there. But owned and controlled by the Government. lol

Man blows up his Tesla after finding out he’d have to pay $22,000 for repairs to replace a battery.

No rapid moves right now at GM;

As noted by General Motors, the company sold a total of twenty-six electric vehicles in the fourth quarter. Not twenty-six thousand. Just twenty-six. These were comprised of twenty-five Chevy Bolts and one Hummer EV pickup truck. This was quite interesting considering that GM made it a point to announce last month that Hummer EV customer deliveries were already starting.

Slightly related:

Dislike.

We should demand that the NYC mayor and state goveners homes be subject to all of the latest building codes. Only personal homes though and not at taxpayer expense.

Social media must be able to guilt them into it.

This should only take one administration. After that, only the rich would be able to afford to be governor/mayor.

See, this is the stuff that makes me want to put a natural gas lantern on the outside of my house for historical accuracy. I still have the LP lines.

Personally, if they want to make the push for EV cars, they need to come out with cars that are cheaper options for people to change. I believe the cheapest EV right now is around $28k while you can get something like a base model Chevy Malibu (Midsize car) for $22k. Someone needs to put a $20-24k car on the market for EV. Hell, an $18-20k car would be a great addition. But pushing EV cars on us and having almost all of them over $30k, there isn’t an option for the lower class to get their hands on.
I’m sure the thought would be to get a use EV, but now you are talking about possible battery replacement. The cost of the used car + the cost of a new battery and service will equal about the amount of a new EV car.

My tin hat says that’s by design. They don’t want the lower class to have the same freedoms as upper class.

Just make a low monthly payment of $250 and you’ll have limited use of a self driving UBER car (limited to 8,000 miles of use yearly or additional charges will apply).
