I think it’s time for a thread title change. The more I read on this the more people are openly taking that the goal can’t be all electric. It’s need to be no more Americans driving.
“Preserving the status quo might seem like the politically easier option, but it’s not the fastest way to get people out of cars or the fairest way to decarbonize,”
Wow that is actually the first article I’ve read that actually has the facts straight, I’m shook. As a 4xe owner it is annoying how long it takes to get out of FORM however I understand the reasons as to why it does it and I’m ok with it. Jeep just needs to make a statement about it to avoid any more flack. I’m guessing their legal team thinks otherwise.
Heated garage? Having a warmer battery will greatly influence range. My garage is not warm but I always schedule to be done charging when I leave so the battery has some heat. Don’t be naïve about the reduced range you’ll for sure notice it on a road trip below 20F, especially if the roads are slushy(increased resistance).
I guess I just mean for daily driving to and from work. When I look at the charge stats the amount recharged nightly stays pretty flat regardless of what the weather is. For a long trip I could see it having a noticeable impact, however we wouldnt ever take it on a long trip and instead take one of the gas vehicles.
her parents, who also bought a Mach-E, have complained of broken public chargers and endless lines. Sometimes they drive for miles before they can find a public charger that’s working properly
at least eight apps on his phone from companies like EVgo, Electrify America, ChargePoint and Shell Recharge … The apps clutter his phone – and even worse – require an outstanding balance to use.
“The dealership experience is so far behind. I get solicitations for oil changes. The staff is so disconnected from the product they’re selling,”
HOWEVER
The bad experiences are frustrating, he said. The one upside? Meeting fellow EV drivers.
“I can meet a lot of cool people at these stations,” he said. "I always ask them how their EV experience has been
It’s not transportation: it’s a social experience!
Seriously though this article makes me think Tesla is way ahead of everyone else, as they should be.
Oh boy. I also imagine in a winter storm like we have in Buffalo, or COVID, they’d just shut down your car remotely because “driving ban” or something similar.
According to the Ford patent application for repossession-linked technology, cruise control and automated windows could be disabled if a consumer doesn’t acknowledge a notice of an overdue car payment. Ford could also shut down key fobs, door locks — even the accelerator or the engine itself.
This already happens a ton today. We have a credit union that specializes in high risk auto loans and built right into the loan terms is the requirement that a GPS and immobilizer be installed and the owner is not allowed to tamper with them (they are remote monitored). Miss a payment and the car won’t unlock or start and the repo truck picks it up. Disable the system and you are in breach of your loan term and the car gets repo’d. The last time I talked to one of them I think the record was selling the same car 4 times in 2 months. This doesn’t bother me at all (pay your damn loan) but I can definitely see the slippery slope of government abuse. You think Trudeau wouldn’t have locked those protestors out of their vehicles at the same time he was locking them out of their bank accounts if he had technological option to do it?
For the first time this weekend, I experienced life with an electric vehicle.
My buddy has a Tesla Model S that he loves.
Absolutely awesome, self driving etc, great ride. He charges it every night when he gets home and never has an issue throughout the day, until I came down for vacation. I rented us a couple Air BnBs so obviously we didn’t have a charger at night,
We drove between Orlando, Miami, Lauderdale and Hollywood, and I have to say, we probably spent about 6-8 hours at charging stations this weekend.
If you do not take your E-Vehicle with you home to fully charge every night, these cars are a massive pain in the balls. We strategically planned dinners and such at places near charging stations, or other things we had to do.
I also met a few annoying Tesla owners. My buddy is a pretty down to earth guy and you could see he was embarrassed on my behalf LOL a lot of the tesla owners will just walk up to you and start telling you how great their Tesla is, and how important the environment is, after they’re done doing that they’ll tell you about all of their accomplishments they’ve made throughout their life.
It was just like the South Park Prius episode.
Def a cool car, self driving is incredible, but you gotta plug this thing in at night or else it’s a pain in the ass.
