School bus electrification problems.
Central Square’s longest route is about 234 miles a day – 117 each way. An electric bus takes about seven hours to charge, and the buses he’s looked at go about 120 miles.

Parking ramp drama.
Some apartment complexes are proposing measures such as demanding EV owners sign a pledge to shoulder responsibility for any accidents.
Nice! Need to hear your review
I havent giggled this much since the first time i drove a tesla.
Something this big and heavy shouldnt be this fast. The acceleration is much more like a big turbo car than a tesla, this seems to be to make it more manegeable. That said its very planted and the tires let you kow when you near the limits.
The way it points its nose at the sky at 60mph is a little unerving at first.
I cant get over how maneuvarable it is. All big trucks should have rear wheel steer.
The interior is cool but I wish it was more luxury. Reminds me of how much i miss the range rover interior.
Range is impressive, was on track to get 390 miles on the trip back from Detroit.
So its only 3 days in but
What are you charging it with?
A diesel generator #greennewdeal
Did you make it from Detroit to Buffalo without charging?
Yep, had 70 miles of range when got home.
Only downside was I made the trip doing the speed limit instead of the usual 10-15 over. Used supercruise most of the way, worked well.
240 outlet at home, just added a second one yesterday so Tesla and truck have their own.
EV strategy
Ford (F) is overhauling its electric vehicle strategy, which includes dropping a plan for a new electric SUV and pivoting toward hybrid versions. The Detroit automaker’s EV business has continued to bleed money, with prior forecasts that it would lose between $5B and $5.5B in 2024. The strategy shift is expected to cost Ford up to $1.9B, including a $400M non-cash charge for the write-down of SUV manufacturing assets. It will also delay the successor to the F-150 Lightning, trim capex on pure EVs, and ramp up U.S. battery production.
1.5 week update on the hummer…
Software waters down the torque delivery a little too much.
Might be traction control but it seems like it makes it transfer weight before it gives full power.
Can you do anything about it without voiding the warranty?
I just had Rochester transportation sign up for hydrogen. They are piloting a program for liquid hydrogen powered busses. The manager said the EV busses was the biggest scam ever. Yes I work for the same company that lazy fuck @drvnkd works for except I actually work.
isnt hydrogen made by cracking natural gas?
If so why not just burn natural gas
Most of the worlds Hydrogen production is done by cracking (oil) or steam methane reforming (NG)
Linde is or has started using electrolysis in the falls because we get a smoking deal on power and we are trying to decarbonize the planet.
Electrolysis is not at all cost effective and proton exchange membranes (PEM) are probably 5 generations away from replacing an SMR.
Edit:
@LUC1F3R Hydrogen burns super clean. Only water is the byproduct. The problem is that it does not burn nearly as hot as gas per unit volume something or other.
It can also be used with more fancy ceramics to make electricity but again, ceramics are very hard to commercialize at scale.
Just ignore how we get H2, and believe you are saving the planet because once you have it, it’s clean energy.
Billions of research dollars are spent in programs to burn/reform natural gas etc so that all the nasty byproducts can be captured vs sent into the air. Linde even had a program to use 99.999% oxygen in the reforming process with some fun ceramics. That project got me 2 promotions over the years.
@HouseS2K You got me. Although, while working on a Sunday in Minnesota, I was going to message you to find out where I can buy a 501 key. Then I found one stashed in my backpack and remembered yooz guys only work Tuesdays through Thursdays.
Might as well pile on more.
We also use NG and O2 to make “syngas” via combustion. No SMR required. I never worked on these though.
This was what I worked on. Thanks Dept. of Energy and tax payers.
The liquid hydrogen fueled cars is intriguing. Toyota did a test a few years ago and got like 860 miles on just 12lb’s of hydrogen. They also tested it on the GR carolla and it had the same power output.
I think you guys are forgetting this isn’t about finding a better alternative to fossil fuels… it’s about getting you out of your car and out of the suburbs and into mass transit in an urban setting. Or better yet into an urban setting where you work from home and take “vacations” on your AI headset while never leaving your tiny apartment.
So step one is mandating electric cars that are a terrible replacement to gas, that are too expensive for most consumers, that are throwaway appliances so there’s no longer a good used market for people who can’t afford new…
