Great post. Thank you for giving us your views and some facts.
I agree it is very naive. In the extreme sense, if Gates, or any other company for that matter, can not get the people to fill the jobs here - either through these visas or “native” talent, then he will move ALL the jobs to a location that has these people. Then we lose any potential and current jobs. Not good.
This thread will never die. There will always be multiple opions on this subject. This same battle has been hashed out for years… although with different characters. I can remember my dad having these same conversations when I was a little kid. I am not comfortable with giving away US jobs to anyone outside the USA. Yes the USA is the “land of opportunity” but shouldn’t we take care of our own first. Unfortunately, money talks and bullshit walks. Which means, Bill Gates will probably get whatever he wants without the entire scenario being looked at in full.
I am willing say that the other opions in this thread are valid however, I am still sticking to mine. I don’t think we should give jobs to foreign folks. I think, given the opportunity, most fols in the USA are willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. Take classes, on the job training, whatever. If Companies are not put in a position to consider this option, they won’t. I think we should find a way to fill these jobs here. I know many people who’s lives have been changed forever because they were down sized and are now unable to find work. Our un-employment rate should be zero before we hand jobs to other countries.
i see so many lazy fucking assholes in town taht it makes me wonder how some businesses even run… some / most people are so fuckign lazy that they just do what needs to be done to get by and that’s that… those poeple should be fired / replaced / demoted.
i’m not worried baout losing a job to somene overseas, because i know my shit, get shit done, and go further than asked. I learn new shit on my own and bring new thinking to the workplace… someone that knows books smarts isn’t going to top that.
it’s not up to the employeer to put lazy fucking american assholes into school so they can be ‘educated’… what happened to people going to school to get the education for a better job on their own. i think that’s bullshit… these ‘overseas’ workers strive for better education so that they can land jobs like we’re talking about because they wanted to better themselves, and that’s admirable. i’d take that worker over some unionized lazy fucking american trying to get paid more and do less work.
cliffs: people are lazy and 80% of the time deserve to lose their jobs.
I won’t say 80%, but there are some and everything else you say is right on. I like how everyone is all angry over the jobs thing and glossing over the fact that Gates also mentions improving education. Improving education should be something we are all behind yet it never moves beyond talk. That’s the sad part.
education begins in the home. some asian public school is not teaching better facts than a us school. but 80 % of asian kids get their ass beat for not trying (generalizing i know) and 80% of lazy US kids just turn ghetto or drive daddy’s beemer…
Well, we are getting off topic but I agree with you some what - the parents are a big influence, but it’s way more than that. This article gives some very basic differences:
99.9% of companies will not just uproot and move all jobs to a foreign location. If companies cannot find inhouse staff to fulfil certain operations they will look at outsourcing to a US based company before a foreign entity, unless it’s a labor intensive operation and they are looking to for a cost center - but that’s a whole different issue.
MS has offices in many countries worldwide and I’m sure most of the H1 applicants they wish to pull into the US are already MS employees in other countries.
And it’s usually the hard workers that get the shaft and have to work their fucking asses off, usually because they don’t have a degree, and the lazy fucks make 4X what the hard workers do, because they have a piece of paper that says they know what to do.
I find this post to be extremely disturbing. Do you remember what the United States was founded on? “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, unless its possible that they might make the industry I work in slightly more competative”. :ugh2:
i’m going to just add my .01cent worth. i haven’t read much of this crap thread so it may not even be a related subject. :dunno: my employer brings mexicans up every year on a 6 month visa. they make about 7.80hr, the same wage as any american would start at. they are here to work, and they WANT to work. there are no americans that want to do this type of physical labor(landscaping). one of the requiremnts before he can bring them up is he must put ads out in the paper and career link. after he goes through the couple of applications and finds that there is nobody that meets the phsical requirments then he is allowed to bring them up. one thing i like about having them here is they do all the stuff i don’t want to, and don’t give you a hard time about getting the shitwork. my only complaint is they don’t have to pay taxes on the money they earn here. so there 7.80 per hr tax free is pretty close to my 11.50hr - taxes.
so go get a degree and be lazy. That’s my goal. I hate doing the day to day computer shit, so I am going to get my degree and move up into management, where I can be “lazy” as you put it.
ps. degree or no degree, people are lazy. I would think the lazy people are the people without the degree’s who couldn’t get off their ass to get a degree. :dunno:
