lol, the fix is fine. all it does is hold the upper shock mount. has nothing to do with ride height, ride quality, structural integrity. There is no reason as to why this would fail, its no different then using bolts to hold down your shock mount, which in a way is what this is.
Im not saying i woulda fixed it this way since i have access to welding equipment, but what i am saying is that the fix is fine for someone with lesser tooling. performance will not suffer.
It’s ghetto, but from a structural standpoint I really think it’d be totally fine… Shit, if he put panel bond on there, it’d probably be stonger than stock. It’s not like it sees THAT much load… a front strut tower I’d be a little more concerned about, because that supports both the spring and the damper…
Lol its fine. I probably would of done it the same way if that happened when i had my e36 lmao. At least no one will really see it since the carpet covers it in the trunk.
Wish I could find a pic of my old VW Pickup’s strut tower. They put a new one in using about 100 bolts, then welded it, and they made a strut tower brace out of rebar and random steel. Looked like shit but it worked. I just replaced the brace with a real one. The best part was the guy paid $800 for the repair, which was more than he sold me the truck for.
Meh, so he replaced spot welds with bolts. Sure it looks like shit, but if it were a high load area it shouldn’t have been spot welded in the first place. I would have used washers, but whatever. Function > Form.
And I don’t know who Tweeter is, but I like him. Anyone who can use “hillbilly” “abortion” and “SHO” in the same jab is awesome.
yea, i fucking built it. id like to see you cram that much shit into the area i had to work with.
the only parts of my work on that car that failed, besides the paint on the hot pipe is the Y pipe that cracked when it smashed the subframe after the motor mount ripped.
oh, and the shitty tune that i always said was just a base tune. yea, that was shitty too, never said it was pretty.
the tranny probs are out of my hands. and if try to quote the dyno pull your mentally retarded
wooooohoooo
and by the way, i fucking hate shos now too. Bacon had it right years ago.
But apparently this strut tower hasn’t failed after 23,000 miles… so if failure is the criteria you based your “hack work is hack work is hack work, its that simple” comment on, then you’ve stuck your foot in your mouth…
